Fibro and Post-Op Pain

After a week of increasing stomach and chest pain, I (finally) went to the ER, where they immediately removed my gangrenous gall bladder.

It's my second day home from the hospital - third day post op - and I'm just wondering if I should look forward to another extra, extra long period of post-op pain. I've heard that Fibro can increase pain after an operation.

I'm wondering if anyone here has experienced this increased amount of post-op pain, and if that's perfectly normal for us.

I had foot surgery a few years ago. In addition to extra rest, don't quit any pain medication too quickly. That was my mistake. It threw me right into a ten day flare.

I think if I had not been so cavalier about taking my pain meds for a longer period of time, things would have been OK. We are all different so it is hard to predict your reaction. I hope your doctor will be supportive should you need more medication.

You may have extra pain, and a longer recovery period, as I did. But that's nothing compared to the bullet you've just dodged. A gangrenous gallbladder can make you very ill if not removed in time....So, rest up and congratulate yourself for coming through the operation in one piece. Or, minus one piece.

I had surgery last February and it took me longer to recover than I anticipated. The surgical site also took longer to heal, but I don't know if that part is Fibro related. I was pretty new to Fibro, and as usual in a rush to get back to my normal routine, which, just like Fantod threw me into a major flare. I know it's hard to rest and it gets very boring but you really need it as you recover. Make sure you keep on top of the pain. My surgeon did not prescribe enough medication for my recovery time so I went to my GP who had no problem giving me more to get me through. I wish you a speedy recovery :)

Forgot to mention...the nurse told me that protein heals. Make sure to eat plenty of high protein foods during your recovery.
