Emergency oral surgery

Yep, you read that right. I think I mentioned yesterday that I was having a toothache. Well, it got much worse today. My daughter suggested her dental office, which I'm sure glad about. They did an X-ray, and I had a fractured root on a top molar. Plus what looked like an infection. It needed to come out, so the oral surgeon explained everything to me which included a bone graft and upcoming implant. 



The tooth removal was horrible. I was having a panic attack through the whole thing, and I was afraid I would fly off the chair in fright. But I kept breathing, and made it through. I had to ask them to stop for a while as I just needed to get my witts about me again. The sounds of drilling and chopping and yanking. Gah! It was very traumatic. PTSD was kicking in. They were very kind to me though, so that was nice. 



I did have an infection that needed to be cleaned out and a bone graft was done...stitches as well. I will be on soft food for about 2 weeks or so. I was given antibiotics, vicodin, and some type of mouth wash. I am so glad it is over with.



I thought of Blue, and her oral surgery, and it helped me make it through. Now I'm going to read check-in. It will help me forget the pain.

Poor Ida I hate dentists and have had several root canals. I have had 3 teeth pulled for infection. We didn't have insurance so I couldn't afford to save the tooth. I am glad that they were able to get you in so quickly and take care of it the same day. My heart goes out to you over the PTSD. I understand having to have breaks in the action because panic is too high. I hope that now it is over you will heal quickly. The Vicodin will help some and in a day or so you can also use a salt water rinse which will help it heal. Hugs and prayers for you.

Ida - What a day! The infection is probably why you were feeling terrible yesterday. I hate the dentist. I'm glad that they were good to you and gave you breaks. I hope that your recovery is uneventful. Hugs and a medal for bravery!!

Well, that is no fun at all! I get t o go see a dental surgeon for my molar, have to probably get a root canal...

OMG, Ida, that sounds scary. I'm so glad you made it through. I remember when they were chiseling away at me, too. So awful. What a horrible surprise for you! I'm glad you got it taken care of right away and it didn't fester for like a year like mine did. Ouch, your poor bone and those stitches, huh? I had the same mouth wash. It's a medicine that helps your mouth heal up faster. Tastes disgusting and can't get rid of the flavor, though. Good luck with that soft diet. I lost weight on those smoothies. Prayers you feel better soon!

Fantod, I'm wondering if when I was freezing so bad on Monday, it was a fever from the infection.

Blue, I knew you would understand what I went through. What foods did you eat? I would love to lose some weight. I'm not supposed to use a straw.

Ouch, glad you went to the dentist and got it taken care of! Hoping you feel better despite the pain and stress of being worked on :(

I am so happy they were able to get you in and get your tooth taken care of before the infection got any worse. I hope you will be feeling better in no time.

Yikes Ida. I am glad you were able to get in right away and get it taken care of. I understand the anxiety/panic completely. When I had a crown I had a panic attack in the chair and that is minor compared to what you just went through. Just teeth cleaning gives me anxiety. I am glad they were kind to you - always a plus : )

Thanks guys. I was able to eat some eggs tonight...chewing on one side. I am just so tired, and have no energy at all. I hope I get my strength back soon.

Before getting an implant or root canal, please do some research. I have 5 root canals & now I'm wishing I would have had the teeth pulled.

I'm not having a root canal and the tooth is already gone. I'm not going to risk the other teeth by leaving a big gap there, so I'm having the implant.
