I live 60 miles from the epicenter and didn't feel a darn thing!! Felt much weaker one when ex was stationed in San Diego

I'm with Narey, hope that everyone is ok. When I heard that there ease an earthquake in Virginia I wondered if any of you here were there.

I pray for all the people affected by it that they are ok and that God gives them strength to deal with any injuries and damages the quake might have caused.

There was also a 5.3 that hit Southern Colorado last night..

I live in Frederick, MD and felt it here. I live in a third floor apartment and it seemed that the whole building was shaking. the pictures swung a little but nothing fell off. It last about 15 seconds. I think the dog was more freaked out than me. No damage but the phone is out.

I felt it up here in Rochester, NY...I thought it was the big-ass reclining chair and my meds not kicking in as I was trying for a nap....after trying to do too much in this cooler then normal summer air and a house that keeps getting itself dirty when I'am not looking!

Sitting here about 30 miles from the epicenter - it was pretty freaky but we're fine and the worst I've heard from friends and neighbors is about pictures falling off the walls and pets hiding under furniture.

Jon telecommutes for a company in New York City and they felt it and I have a friend in New Bern NC who felt it as well.

I don't remember one this strong before. We had a 4.5 in 2003 but it didn't last as long. This one went on for about 90 seconds and it was weird. Just kept "going and going and going" and now waiting to see if we will have aftershocks.

Short story though - no serious damage or injuries that I know of - just a 90-second WTF? :)

I live about 30-40 miles from the epicenter, got very rattled, pics askew, etc., gas leaks and more. I fell down the stairs, landed on my already injured/damaged backside, am in a lot more pain all over again, alas.
All our friends and neighbors are okay but DH's one client had windows bust in his house. It's very scary. They have to check all the bridges and dams and nuke plants.

Hope everyone else is okay. Last I heard, our magnitude was 5.8-6.0, biggest quake since 1897 for Virginia.

KDavis, you may not have felt it b/c we on the other side of the Blue Ridge seem to have taken the force of it---WV didn't feel much either. A geologist at the university said that the quake's force went parallel to the Blue Ridge, then when it ran out of Blue Ridge, it spread west. Dunno if he is right but it might explain why you didn't feel it! Did anyone in your area? I'm near Charlottesville, we're still hearing/feeling aftershocks now and then.

I'm closer to Harrisonburg. WHSV is still all over this as if it were a 9.0! lol Don't know if you get that station....but they won't stop going on about it! Maybe I got jaded living in socal for so long....I'm just like what's the fuss? lol

I live in the western part of NC - not far from Charlotte & close to where I-40 & I-77 intersect in Statesville, NC. I FELT IT!!!. Was sitting at my desk & the chair I was in started "slipping & a sliding" like it was on a patch of ice. As the crow flies, I'm probably about 275 miles southwest of the epicenter.

Called my mom (lives about 10 away) & she had felt it. A brother who lives about 30 miles west of me called to tell me that he felt it as well.

Glad to hear no one was injured - now those of us in this part of the US have to keep an eye on Irene.

I live in Southern Colorado, about 40 miles from where the epicenter was and we had 8 earthquakes within around a 4 hour span.
Most of them were between 2.0 and 4.0, but we also had one that was 5.3.
Shook my house pretty good, but no damage reported here in my city.
Pretty scary to think of 8 earthquakes in that small of a time-line.

Kdavis, well, if you lived in SoCal, yeah, you're jaded when it comes to quakes! Just remember that to the rest of us this is HUGE news. We do NOT get many quakes that can be felt, let alone ones that collapse buildings or damage them, etc., so we're not at all jaded...Now talk to us about heat waves and tropical storms, yawn, snore, whatever, LOL.

A building in Culpeper collapsed, and three more will be torn down, the news said.

Sugarbear, I'm inland enough Irene won't do much but rain on me, hope you won't get too much out of it, either... Last thing we need here is too much rain, we'll be sweating rockslides here in the mountains.

Being from New Zealand, I can empathize. I hope everyone is ok =]
