When I was 10 yrs old, my left eardrum ruptured from an infection. My ear was irrigated by the Dr. svereal times. Would I be able to have this done, since it was ruptured so long ago(I'm 46 now). I hear just fine out of it, maybe a little less than the other ear...I am willing to try this, but only if it is safe after a rupture from years ago...Does the hole created back then, heal itself?

Sunshine I'm sure you would be fine, as long as you don't have a current rupture or severe ear infection. You don't stick it down into your ear. Just place it gently in the top of the ear canal. Nothing goes into the ear and you don't feel anything come out, just hear a little crackling and a little warmth sometimes.

Yes, I don't get infection tough sometimes fluid on the eardrums. Have done it for several years. Here is something else to look into Zinc & NoFlush Nician helps with ear problems. As long as I take them I don't get the fluid build up. 1ea 3xdaily. Hope this helps

I've never tried it, but do know what it is. So glad you get some relief hun. I've read that those of us with Fibro can really use ear candles ... I'm going to try it whenever I can get out to.

I have used the ear candles for over six years now. I started using them to relieve fluid pressure in my ears due to sinus drainage. I use them on my husband, children, and even had used them on friends that have ear trouble. The candles pull fluid, heavy wax build up out of the ear canal. They are very safe for anyone that does not have anytype of open wounds or cuts in their ear canal. I have even witness someone that had a small bug in their ear, and the candle pull the insect out into the candle. I usually buy them at a herb store in large quantities to get a better price. They are usually around 7 dollars for two. It can take usually two to three per ear if you have alot of fluid or pressure.

I personally do not believe candling works. However I do believe in the placebo effect...if you believe it works then it works.

Well I'd have to disagree with you about the placebo effect Perky. Maybe it just didn't work for you, but it certainly does for alot of others.

I did it last year. I didn't notice any difference from it to be honest.

Perky, I think placebo is a bunch of hoo-haa. It sounds more like a bunch of disbelieving doctors made that up just to make people feel stupid. Im sure there is a small amount of people that might THINK it works ( and in actuality still doesnt). But, for FMS it either WORKS or DOESNT.

Jellybean, I will have to disagree with you on the placebo effect. The power to belief is very strong and has been proven over and over again. The human mind is amazing and I do not believe using the term placebo is made to make anyone feel stupid. NO one can MAKE you feel stupid. Peace to you.

I have heard of this before and I've heard several people have success with it.

They actually have a length of wax they fit specifically to your ear. They light a "wick" at the end outside your ear. The fire never goes into the ear canal, but the heat has been proven to draw out excess wax and help with infections and pain.

okay, my daughter has a SEVERE problem with ear wax and we have tried the peroxide thing and she has gone to doctors to have it removed and a doctor apparently told her about ear candles, can you buy them in stores?

I tried it once on my brother and a lot of gunk came out of his ear. But I was still worried about having fire that close to his hair.

Soooo I now use a water pik with warm soapy water works great.
