That website link explains some horrible situations that would put me off too!!
The ear candles I use are "BIOSUN Hopi EAR candles" and are made of 100% beeswax. There is no need to put drip plates or anything around them. I have long hair (as you can sort of see in my photo) and I have no qualms using them. You light the end, which continues to burn, insert it gently into the top of the ear canal and then just hold it while it burns. I haven't tried it myself, but I would if there was no-one around. Just keep a glass of water handy to drop it into when finished. As for not getting anything out - I can tell you, it there is anything in your ears - it comes out. I just did my son's last night and we cut it open afterward - it was quite intersting hehe - if a little gross!
The only time not to use it is if you have a perforated ear drum, severe ear infection or allergic to the product itself. Sometimes I have to do it 2 or 3 times in a week before I get relief, but it has definitely helped me. I purchased mine at a health store, I wouldn't recommend purchasing them from a generalist store. Anyway, interesting to see the replies.
Cheers

I was born with only a partial sinus passage on my left side. I had my tonsils out and tubes put in my ears but the drainage was still bad. I had lots of sinus and ear infections.
What my doctor did was radical. He did surgery and put my nose up on my forehead and broke my nose. He then fashioned a sinus out of what was the tip of my nose. and put everything back in place.
I have not had one sinus or ear problem in years! He did a great job but this surgery was a major one and very painful for a week afterwards.
I think I candeling may work but I find a hot shower and then a Q-Tip works for me for ear wax. Ear wax is beneficial to keeping foreign debris out of our ears.
And believe it or not, many people have things in their ear canals that you just wouldn't believe. I advise *everyone* to do ear candling periodically to clean you ear canals. How often you do it depends on how much ear wax you produce and how often you are at risk for things getting in your ears. For example, if you work in an environment where things are flying around like sawdust, then you may need to clean your ears more frequently than a SAHM that is never in that type of environment.
The only exception to this is that if you have an ear infection, fluid in your middle ear, or a hole in your ear drum for any reason then you should NOT use an ear candle. The vacuum cannot be created if you have a hole in your ear drum and could be damaging to your ear. So if you have tubes or have had damage to your ear drum, check with your doctor before you try ear candles. Hugs, Fern
It's very interesting (and yes, disgusting! lol) to see what comes out!
It's also very easy and we actually have a nice time with it. If it's my b/f's turn, I sit on the sofa and he lays with his head in my lap on his side. I candle his ears while he rests and relaxes and sometimes even falls asleep.
I am confused as to how this pulls the wax out of your ear?
I may not be understanding this right.
Take a candle, made for this, one that is hollow.
Light it
Stick in ear
out comes the wax?
i dont understand how this works.
I get terrible sinus infections and wonder if this would help.
