Dr of Osteopathic Medicine

Hi guys. Since I am moving, I need to find a PCP. I looked through a bunch of doctors online, and found an osteopath who is a family practitioner. They had a video of him, and by the end of the video he was practically had tears in eyes about how much his patients mean to him. I have never seen anything like it. What I'm asking...if you have ever had an osteopathic doctor, how did you like him/her. I made an appointment with him for April 17th. Thanks

I had one as a OB/Gyn and she was fine.

I'm in a similar situation. Two PCPs have been recommended to me, a Nurse Practitioner and a DO. But I'm pretty complicated with autoimmune issues, and I'm not sure it is the best idea. I've been telling myself, if I don't like them I can leave. Unfortunately, I don't leave even when the writing is on the wall, which leaves me in a worse situation.

My Internist is a DO. I love her. DOs have more training than an MD. And, they tend to look at the big picture not just the current issue. This is my second DO and I can't recommend them enough, IMHO much better care overall.

Ida - I think that you would be very pleased with your care.

I have to chime in because I have not had a good experience with them. They are the kind that even after 20 years of sinus issues will not prescribe an antibiotic until I am vomiting blood and mucus.. They also prescribe less, so I end up in the ER with the attending there asking why I was given a child's dose of something. They have told me that migraines don't exist and you only have Fibro if you scream when touched. I cannot recommend them.

Just like regular doctors, there are good and bad DOs. If the video is any indication, I think that you may have a winner Ida.

In the video, he even mentioned that it makes him happy when he treats a sinus infection with antibiotics and the patient feels better. He also mentioned treating a pain type injury with medication to get the patient through for a couple of days, and again he mentioned how good it makes him feel to help someone. He seems very sincere. And kind. I was very impressed. Sorry you had a bad experience, puppymom.

My current Internist has never done any osteopathic manipulation on me. The last one that I had did at my specific request because I was having major back problems from a car accident.

Again, there are good and bad doctors in every practice. The onus is on you, the consumer, to do your homework and ask questions to make sure that you and the doctor are ion the same page. And, if your treatment regimen is lacking, you fire them and move on.

I had a really good DO and also had a really good Nurse Practitioner. I guess it's luck of the draw. Currently I have a Fibro friendly MD who prescribes what I need.
