The fibro specialist I am seeing invited me to join a study of patients with chronic fatigue. The study sounds interesting and I readily agreed. Participants and their partners get 10 weekly counseling sessions on stress via a video phone provided by the study. Sounds good, no? I don't think that I am stressed and hubby can't figure out why I want to do this. I tell him I'm not leaving any stone unturned that might help me out. So, he agreed to participate. But, my question is CF?! I thought my fatigue was one of many fibro symptoms and didn't mert its own diagnosis.

Do you have CF? Was it diagnosed before fibro ? Revised to fibro? Or, after fibro?

Dx'd after Fibro. Actually dx'd Chronic Fatigue Immune Deficiency. I tested positive for 4 out of the 5 virus' (I had had each of them within 18 months) that were commonly defined by the syndrome. I always thought fatigue came with the territory with Fibro because of the mitochondrial problem....our cells don't make enough energy, an energy crisis really.
I have 3 conditions that cause fatigue, the overriding my heart. It was a relief when I realized not all my fatigue came from the previous 2. Now I just go down the checklist of making sure I am doing what I'm supposed to for each. .
It will be interesting to hear what they find. ...keep us posted.

I was diagnosed with cfs about 8 months before the fibro. It is common to have both, but not everyone does. My daughter has fibro and so far no cfs.

It is its own diagnosis. Fatigue is part of fibromyalgia. CFS/ME is much more debilitating and doesn't always involve pain.

Sorry I didn't answer the question - no. I have fatigue but its not debilitating. I work and lead a somewhat normal life - something that's not possible with CFS/ME.

It was clarified today at a support group organized by the doctor. For the study they take people with CFS and people with fibro. Before meds I was very exhausted but now with meds I think I'm probably comparable to my post menopausal friends. We are all very tired in the evenings, but not to the level of CFS.

I got a diagnosis of CFS three years before the Fibro one so can't tell what Fibro without the bad fatigue is like.

If I had to describe the tiredness at its worst with CFS I would say.
" I am lying here in my bed and an Advert comes on TV informing me that for the next hour someone is giving away 500 to every person that turns up at my street corner, yeah just a hundred yards from my house ! Free money ! It's ok, I will stay right here thanks, maybe another time. "

I understand Jenn. Maybe for some people fibro shows up more as tiredness and less as pain. At my worst I might have rated my tiredness worse than the pain.

Hi Emily,
I got cf after fibro diagnosis, for months they said my fatigue was due to the fact that I never get sleep but even if I can sleep I am exhausted. I will fall asleep in the middle of eating breakfast, or anything. Some times it happens just like that . When my medication go lessened I thought the fatigue got better. But then I realized no it was still there. They only thing that works for fatigue is omega xl it gives you extra , extra energy but due to pain the energy does nothing Hope this helps isabee

Both at the same time but I feel that having fibro & not knowing or treating it then led to CFIDS, Altho Hashimotos was the first thing tests showed was going on....actually I was shocked when all the pressure points hurt, like the nurse caused it! So many symptoms for so long I dont know which I had first but I do know Im sick of doctors who only make things worse. For once I would like some help when I go for help!!....Wishing you the best of luck!

I was diagnosed with CF after fibro but I think I had CF all my life. My mom said I was always tired as a kid and I remember always being tired. In fact, I would get sick if I didn't get enough sleep. For me, the CF is way worse then the fibro and some days it's debilitating. I'm a stay at home mom of 2 kids (one is in school) so some days all I can manage is making sure the kids are taken care of.
