disability application

My husband is in the process of applying for disability (it's insurance through his work that will pay for his income for a while when he's unable to work). He just got a letter from them saying he needs to either send them a complete medical history (a record of every time he has seen a dr, had a prescription, ot had a test done since 2006) or a statement that says he hasn't seen a dr for fibro any time from april 2011 to now.
how ridiculous is that!!!!!! He thinks its supposed to somehow prove it wasn't a pre-existing condition from before he got this insurance....but obviously he can't sign a statement saying he hasn't seen a dr for fibro.... and who in the world can come up with a medical history that complete!!! I work in health care, and I've NEVER seen a history that detailed, on any new patient, ever! I think they're juat trying to get out of paying him.

You are probably correct. Many people who apply for disability benefits through work that have Fibromyalgia are treated very badly. Even though FMS is a recognized and legitimate illness those companies are very slow to recognize its existence. I feel you'd be better off to apply for it with an underlying issue such as severe depression etc. I know your husband has been reluctant to pursue counseling but this is a perfect example of leaving no stone unturned. You never know what you might need in the future. Take care.

Yeah I was kind of worried they'd do something dumb like this...

by the way, I only explained what disability is becauae I know we don't all live in the same place, and some things have different names in different places.

I'm glad that you were specific. Your post was very easy to understand. I don't think that this is going to be an easy process by any means. As I said, I'd apply using an underlying but significant issue that this less likely to be denied. Take care.

It would be a good idea to get copies of all of his medical records. That way the info is right there. If a some time later on he files for SSDI, they will want the same info regarding any disability he is applying for.

Call his Doctor and have them get all his Medical records together.
Also is he eventually going to file for SSDI?
Is he trying to be deemed permanently disabled by his work prior to filing with SSDI or is he going this route temporarily? Just wondering.

Its temporary disability. He was just diagnosed recently and is hoping rhat with the right combination of meds/treatments he will be able to go back to work. Luckily he has a desk job, but it does require concentration which is stressful for him when dealing with the fibro fog.
I just think its crazy they want everything since 2006. What about the times hes gone to the walk in clinic because its the weekend and the family dr isn't available? Or all his er visits? He's had two major surgeries since 2010 and it would be nice to be able to just say what surgery he had and why instead of all the er visits leading up to them. There's no way to even get the dates or names of thise doctors because the pcp doesn't have that info.

I didn't have any luck getting long term disability through my former job. They made a mockery of my medical records - twisted everything and accused me of being malingering. It was heart breaking - I was dumb founded. The people these companies hire are supposed to find a way to reject you - esp with fibro. I did end up getting social security disability after wasting a lot of time trying to get long term disability.

I would give them everything they ask for - you can get records from walk in clinics, ERs, ect. It would be quicker to call ahead and tell them what you need and picking them up yourself than asking them to send directly to the long term company. Also go to a kinkos or whatever you have in your area and copy all the records to have in case you need them in the future.

Also since they are your husbands records, he would have to sign for them probably - some places will send a form in the mail to sign.

Good luck. It is stressful - they want you to give up.

I have just completed that stack of forms .... Sent them in and then they wanted the cost of each MD appt and medication. What does the cost have to do with my disability? (I am not applying for SSI and did sign a form stating such. Now the next batch up papers raised asking for a 15 year work history, requesting an hour by hour detailed on how much time I spent a day standing, sitting, crawling, reaching.... For 15 years??? Guess they haven't heard of Fibro Fog. They also want a detailed day to day on how I care for my self physically, my social life etc. seems like TMI to me!

Kathy-- Were those papers from Social Security disability? Even being over 60 they are making you go through this? Scary. I know some papers are coming my way.

kathy, that info is to go along with your medical records. They will see if the things you list that you can't do or can only do on a limited basis is backed up by medical evidence in your medical records. The work info is to determine is you can do your previous work. The current daily info is to determine what your daily activities are and that also goes along with your medical records to see if there is any other work you can do now, even though it may be different work.
