As you may have read in my previous post about the new landlord we have been dealing with....
We moved from Oahu to Maui about a month ago to a house-share situation with the understanding that it was going to be temporary while he worked on the cottage in the back, then he was going to move out, into it. Renting the whole house to us.
From day one our personalities have clashed on a daily basis. Not only has he been micro managing every little cotton pickin thing we do, it's endless lectures on what food I eat, how poisonous sugars are for you, doctors are all quacks, what to do with my cats, what to feed them, how much they should play outside, how bad dryer sheets are, he wrote black marker all over the dryer and washing machines (to tell us how NOT to use it, "don't turn the kitchen spigot this way, turn it that way", "don't use the shower this way, use it that way", what would cure my FM, .... I could go on and on and on...!
Even attacks my gender when saying things like, "Maybe it's a guy thing, because when I explain it to guys they understand." when referring to the washing machine, dryer, spigots, showers, plumbing, etc... No! It's not a gender thing, it's an over lording @$$hole thing!
Anyway, after a few arguments lately (shouting matches) he told us the other day, we aren't working out and he doesn't like having tenants who are nothing but "drama" so it's best we move out after our lease is up. So we continued unpacking and set up our bed and the guest bedroom. I felt every uneasy about it and started looking other rentals. My husband told me to stop looking because we should try and work it out with him.
So this morning, the landlord came out and told us he doesn't want to wait for the lease to run out and we should move out when we're ready to go. He told us he never had any intentions of moving out and he really wants to find tenants he can LIVE with and get along with AND WE'RE JSUT NOT IT. He's especially worried about when my mom plans to move in and feels that will overwhelm him. What an A-Hole this man!
We just unpacked and now we have to pack it all back up! I told hubby we way back it was a bad idea to take this rental and I was right! He can't understand why I'm so stressed / angry about it. Poeple without fibro don't get it. They dont' understand the energy and pain that goes into a move!
Thanks for reading my very long post.....

Never trust "we'll talk" in a relationship. Life lesson learned. The other person talks. You are TOLD.***I'm exhausted, ill, and quite done with being strong. So, today's advice:Screw 'em.Like that shower curtain? Buy it. It's your damn view when you clean that bathroom, right?Want that book? Get it. Books good.Need that extra serving? Eat it. Sometimes we've expended a ton of energy and we do...

Best of luck with this new move. You are right about those who do not have fibro not getting it.
Sending you gentle and loving hugs.
Jrk, I can totally relate to that. We have been bouncing around constantly over the past several yrs. I wanna say 5x in 3 yrs (on average every 6 months) but it could be more. So I'm definitely sick of moving!
Marion, me too! We already spent so much money on the move. PLus my husband isn't teaching any summer courses this year (no income till fall). I don't know if hiring packers would be a good idea. We're just going to have to suck it up and pack it ourselves. Thank you for the hugs :)
Bobbii, He says that he has rented the rooms to many tenants before. Has complaints about all of them. Goes on and on about it.
I had the same feeling too. I tried to tell my husband way back then that it didnn't make sense to rent with him, because of our situation with my mom coming and her specific needs (all our needs for that matter). The last thing we needed was an extra person around in the picture further complicating things. So when we interviewed with this man, we were VERY CLEAR about our needs and that it wouldn't work with him living in the house with us. THat we needed to rent a place ALL TO OUR SELVES. So he told us then his plan was to eventually rent out the whole house anyway (because he recently retired and wants to go traveling), and THAT was in the works. I had a bad a feeling the whole time about it but both my husband and the landlord talked me into it. They both claimed they had a "good feeling" about it and that it would all work out for the long term. (rollseyes). What a bunch of bull.
He wasted our time, energy, and money. Just playing mind games with us. He would talk to us about switching the utilities over into our names. He had this discussion with us multiple times. We talked about where to set up the garden my husband and I wanted to grow veggies. But I started getting nervous because he was all talk. Every time I wanted to start putting something into motion, he would not approve "yet". Delay delay delay. I knew something was up.
And then when we had that argument (I mentioned in the previous thread) and the landlord said he wanted us to be ONE BIG HAPPY FAMILY, that was confirmation to me right then and there that he never had any intentions of moving out. That he was looking for tenants to replace the family who left him.
I tried to explain this to my husband that day, but he said I totally misunderstood what the landlord was trying to say. According to my husband he was just trying to say he hopes we can work out our differences and be friends. NOPE. I was right. Dude is just one lonely maniac who likes toying with people's lives.
My husband keeps telling me to look on the bright side. But I can't help being angry at this situation. We spent so much time and energy (and in my case PAIN and fatigue) unpacking and making the place "home" just to turn around and pack it all back up = more energy and pain. Because we got toyed with. And most of all, because I listened to people and not my own intelligent brain that was telling me this didn't add up! Yes, I guess there is a bright side to it. We won't have to be living with this a-hole anymore.
Do be aware as you pack that the landlord will be on you like fly on poop and may claim you're taking things that are "his". I swaer my one evil relative furnished her house that way, just harangued tenants into leaving things behind that she liked. And she wasn't even house-sharing. Ugh.
Big hugs of support and a thousand (virtual) cookies to you, of ten varieities!
Thanks for the thousand cookies! Yum! xoxo
For me, I would find a place and move ASAP, go forward and don't look back.
Also, ALWAYS listen to your gut. It will always tell you the truth. The last time I failed to do this, my house was robbed! I'm never doing that again.
Good luck and now, on to bigger and better things..don't worry, be happy.
I feel so bad about this situation with the rotten landlord. I pray you find a new place very quickly. And let's not borrow trouble about the guy suing you. I think he will be glad to see you gone, just as you will be glad to go. He's just a pain in the butt, and best left in the rear-view mirror.
Take care.
Also, as angry as I am about this whole thing, I have come to the understanding that God knows what's best for us... and trying to make it work with this landlord was NOT it. It's beautiful here, but this wasn't meant to be our home... He has a better place in mind for us just around the corner. I am anxious to get there! I guess this is why He gave us a way out, even though it came out in this form. But it's better than being stuck in a binding lease as things continue to get worse.
But for some odd reason my husband keeps saying we should try to bide our time and stick around here. I completely disagree. I think he's lost his mind and I partly blame him for getting us into this mess in the 1st place. My instincts are telling me to get out, so that's what I'm going to do. I'm sure Leo can understand this one with PTSD. If this narcissistic a-hole wants us gone, why should we stick around?
If I read the situation correctly from afar? His next step will be to do something petty but vastly irritating. E.g., he'll start throwing out your food and claiming it was spoiled or going bad, and if he offers you his food, he'll want money for it. He'll call that "fairness" and "being a good person". (Yep, my aunt did that one to her apartment-mate in college. She started young.) Then he'll wave the lease if you try to break it, without realizing that landlords can break leases, too. (They can. Contract law. Either party in a contract can violate the terms of the contract. Landlords bet on people not realizing that the landlord is a part in the contract, and as subject to its terms as the lessee.)
It sucks to move, but this guy? Is sucking your spirit. Such are best left to themselves. I'd also bet that, like my aunt, his claim he's fixing up the guest house for himself is total BS. Heard *that* before, only it was the space above the garage, or the old barn or the walk-out basement or (fill in blank). Sometimes people are telling the truth. Sometimes, they tell enough truth to cover the massive lie. And sometimes, they drag out what they belive to be true ("I really am gonna fix that building up for myself") to make sure nothing in their situation ever changes, other than their cry that they are the victim/misunderstood/etc.
Puma power to you, Blue.
