Cymbalta vs Generic

Hi Everyone,
I hope everyone is having as pain free of a day as possible.
I have been taking Cymbalta for four years now and I have done fairly well with it. My insurance will not pay for the name brand and I started taking the generic form and I don't feel quite right? Has anyone encountered this? If this has been discussed in a prior conversation please let me know and I will look for it.

I started out on Cymbalta and was on it for years. Then I switched to the generic and have noticed no difference. However, some people have reported that the generic version doesn't work as well.

Perhaps your doctor could work with your insurance company to get the non generic reinstated. Good luck and take care.

Yes, generic versus brand name can be significantly different. In my seizure meds, the difference can be up to fifteen percent efficacy. (That is, how well it works.) Generally, it's due to differences in the inert ingredients, some of which can affect how your body can absorb the active ingredient(s). Some meds are best if digested fully in stomach, others in certain parts of intestines, etc., and so if the pill or what-have-you dissolves too soon or too late, it can also have an impact.

My HMO requires the doc to sign a form about Brand Name Required or Prescribe As Written (meaning, as brand name), for me to get brand name for my seizure meds. So it' worth talking to the doc and investigating that.

I took Cymbalta until the generic came out and then switched to generic since the cost through insurance was significantly lower. I have not noticed any difference.
