Ive had the shots for shoulder and knee problems. It sure didnt help me any.

I've had numerous shots for a bulging disc in my back. It helped my back for a while, but did nothing for the fibro. Where is the injection site for fibro?

I got a shot in my knee for arthritis, and it did help by giving me lots of energy, a great mood, and even helped with my pain.

Good luck, Dixie, but I'd think after a week you'd already know if it was going to help or not.

I've had ESI's galore to my back and twice to my knees. I'm with lizzy. I would think that by now you would know whether or not it worked. After the first ESI I had, pain relief lasted about 1 week. Since then, none of them work.

Never heard of them being given for fibromyalgia. Sounds like some doctors thinking outside the box. Good deal!

Cortisone shots for treating Fibromyalgia (FMS) are inappropriate. There is no inflammation associated with FMS. If you have an underlying problem such as RA, a bulging disc or some other inflammatory process than it may be warranted.

Cortisone depresses an already compromised immune system. It shoud never be used unless absolutely neccessary and for the shortest amount of time possible. Cortisone injections are made into either joints or soft tissue. Repeated cortisone injections into a single joint may weaken the structure of the joint.

Even an individual cortisone injection could potentially cause problems; dependent, in some cases, upon the exact location of the injection and the pre-existing state of the soft tissue structures. A single shot could damage or even rupture a tendon, could lead to an infection, or could temporarily increase pain at the site of injection, due to a reaction to the cortisone.

Other possible side-effects include damage to nerves around the injection site, skin may thin and pigmentation may lighted at the injection site, may lead to osteoporosis in bones near the injection site, and pain may worsen for 48 hours following an injection.

I would have serious reservations about continuing to see this doctor. Trying to "fix" FMS with cortisone is a very bad idea in my estimation. Take care and enjoy the weekend.

I had one in my hip when I developed bursitis. Fibro caused the pain to be worse but fibro did NOT cause the bursitis. The shot helped the bursitis I still had widespread pain and tenderpoints everywhere else.

I have received cortisone(corticosteroid) shots in lower back and in my feet and they helped a lot for about 2 days and that was it.

I have a large fibroma right in the arch of one foot and it is super painful. The shot helps to break it up as well as help with pain. I suffered a lower back injury as well and it just compounded the pain that I already had there. The shot worked well to alleviate the pain and swelling.

As someone said these shots are not given for FM but for Lupus, RA, Bursitis, etc.

Sometimes I find the steroid in the shot makes it hard to sleep.

I appreciate everyone's response. I did not feel like it helped me at all, in fact, the first night my pain was really bad and I believe it was from the shot.
I seem to be starting all over again with dr.'s because he did not send for my records from WA state. So now he wants to treat me for lyme disease....he has not run a blood test for this. But I have had the blood test and it was negative....he still wants to treat me.
Its all rediculous....there's a lot more to this but my hands hurt to much to write it all out......long story short I need to find a dr. that knows something about Fibro.
