to Strengthen them I started walking in a Pool...against a current of water...One more Bonus Effect of Pool Therapy...strengthens the larger Muscles, as well as those Small balancing muscles...without Impact...
Have you Tried that ?
I got so good at Falling, I would not even Tense up or try to catch myself anymore..straight down I would go..that hrut SO much less !!
I enjoy walking, but after yesterday I definetly know I've got to look where I'm going more. I will need to remember what you said about not tensing up. That is why I hurt so much because I did tense and jambed right into my wrists etc.
Part of my problem is the balance issue, but I also get a light headed feeling too... like I'm on a boat.
I'm seriously thinking about getting a jacuzzi. I don't have room for a pool, but think we could manage that.
Thanks for your advice!
I hope you feel better soon.
Hugs,
Sam
So I just go to the Rec center, my Girlfriend goes to one of the Local Hotels...cuz her hubby works there...so she has fell and free use of the Pool & exercise room...she offered that to me as well..which I should have done..but I like the "River Walk"...that is what REALLY Boosted my Strength !!
I had a bad fall last week at the gas station. I was leaning in the car to put my credit card in my purse and then stood up and tripped on the island behind me and fell backwards over it.
I am super clutzy. A pool is a safe way to exercise for sure. It can be a lot of fun too. I joined an arthritis group at the YMCA and we all stumbled around the pool together, laughing at each other.
I kind of miss the "halo" effect though - traffic lights appeared to me to be a ring of five or six lights in a "wreath" and it was like there were holiday decorations up all the time! :)
I was unable to drive at night at all, and now I have 20/20 vision with lenses that won't change with time.
I was in a sling and using a cane for a couple of weeks from that fall.
Hope you heal quickly!
Hope you feel better soon.
But this morning - I let my dog out and she is a basset hound and you would think that they would be able to hear really well with the biggest ears in dogdom - but she doesn't listen to a word you say. So I had to go down the stairs to go get her back into the house. As I went down, I don't know how I did it but my big toe crashed into the concrete stepping stone. I'm pretty sure it's broken.
