For the first time since living with my mother I have wall to wall carpeting. I had an old Sears canister for my mostly wood floor former apartment, which is really on it's very last leg (wheel?) So I bought a Hoover Wind Tunnel. It picked up a really frightening amount of dust, which is good, as I am allergic to dust, and scary--did all that dust come from a year and a half of me living in a smallish 1 bedroom apartment? Or is some of this from the previous tenant? Unfortunately, I have completely done myself in. The vacuum is heavy and I keep having to pick it up. It doesn't move well, and it is nearly impossible to get under beds or other furniture. I am intending to return it, now that I have removed buckets full of dust. Does anyone have a vacuum cleaner that is decent on carpets, not too expensive, and won't leave you in agony in bed lying on a heating pad? There are so many vacuum cleaners out there, and I'm pretty much at a loss. (I do have a Neato vacuum cleaner, which was pretty cool except it got lost, stuck on small rugs, and I had to move the furniture to really use it. I may use it sometimes, but it needs a rehab, which means me ordering parts and playing with it's insides sitting on the floor, which makes me hurt to even think about it.)

If anyone has any ideas, I'd really appreciate it.
