Daughter left home after fight and won’t contact
my 21 yr old daughter left home after an argument that got out of hand. We were both at fault - myself more than her (I ended up pulling her hair). Our relationship has not been great for a number of years; mainly due to the fact that while she was living at home she saw no need to contribute or take an active part in family life, and while I obviously was at fault for letting her behave like that, I have tried before to get her to move out (with my help and support) thinking that our relationship would improve if we weren’t under the same roof.
she has now cut off all contact with me and her dad ( who wasnt involved in the argument) and I don’t know what to do. Should I leave it until she decides to have us back in her life or should I keep attempting to get in touch with her? I think she is livin* with her boyfriends parents (I don’t know them).
im desperately worried that this stress will affect her studies and that she will blame me for her not achieving her potential.

I'm feeling down,, and got alot on my mind right now. I got grief going on, on top my depression and anxiety and now I got to worry about somewhere to live since I can't afford living here since my mom passed. So many bad things have happened since my mom passed. One thing after another it seems. Yesterday our fence fell from a storm that hit, had to call someone to prop it up. Thank...
If it were me I would give her a sincere apology for the violence involved in the fight and tell her you love her and you're here when she wants to talk
However it does read like it's time that she's on her own …. This is no good for any of you ….. I hope that she'll contact you soon...… Big hug.....xo
I just have to add that pulling hair is never okay. Maybe take full responsibility for that (instead of saying that you both were to blame).
At 21, she should contribute. If necessary perhaps write them down and have her sign it (if you want her to pay rent, do such and such chores, etc.)
But at 21, she shouldn't be expected to "take an active part in family life". She's basically boarding at home...her life is out with school, friends, perhaps a part time job. At 21, she should be hanging out with her friends...not family.
My son is 18, also living at home while going to colllege. While I adore my son, I'm NOT one of his friends. If it came down to my birthday vs doing "nothing" with his friends...well my birthday can wait. I've had enough of them.
The hair pulling was wrong and you need to apologize for that one. If you know the boyfriend whether you know the parents or not you can try to at least reach her through them in order to apologize.
It sounds like you would blame yourself as much as you say she might blame you if all this affects her school. There comes a time when we all have to be accountable for our own actions. I recently saw a quote (can't remember who said it) that you can't control the waves but you can learn to surf. This is life. We can't control the things that surround us but we can certainly control how we respond.
