To one of your question, the groups were started when many of us were in treatment, at that time most were very beaten down, no hope, no dreams, actually nothing to look forward to but another day and a cloudy one at that (LOL), We were getting a new treatment provider after 2 years with the old one, who by the way was a total AZZ, anyway the new man showed up and as the weeks went by he said he had never seen a group of people so beaten down, he suggested sometimes we go out to dinner for group, speak our minds, so it happed, years later even after I completed treatment I still went, I also went to different counties and their classes to mentor because it helped me also. It was my way of helping people build up their self-confidence as well as my own.
I also heard about activist group in my state through RSOL, so I went to some of the meetings, donated time and money to letter writing campaigns etc. which I still think can work to a certain point.
As far as the question do I or we feel safe, Yes I do, we refuse to be sheep, and we have the right to protect ourselves.
I know how difficult things can be, I have been there, but I focus on the positive things that happen in my life and Try not to dwell on the horrible ones. LOL it does not work all the time, but I will just say most of the time.
A man told me one time that you have to heal yourself before you can help heal others, this man turned out to be a really good treatment provider that really did care and still does.
I refuse to sit idle while all these new laws and restrictions are put in place,(These is not about the punishment I received It is about them piling on more after the facts) it may not help, but we have to try which leads me to the journey I am on.
I really believe if more would be involved change will happen.
And fear is with us all, some just hide it better.
I have to agree with you, years ago I donated some money to some group, I forget the name, only to watch and listen to them whine and fight, then they disbanded, LOL and not even a refund, I had a group of people willing to donate at that time, but I told them to wait, so happy I did. The only groups a donate to now are my state and one national one, I hope it will not be in vain.
Writing letters to state senotors, reps may not seem like it works but it does put it on some of the Reps mind, if they never get a letter they will think every thing is fine.
As for as money goes it does not have to be much, even if it is postage for some group in your state that you feel good about.
@Jmjh
I think you are correct that funds being diluted servers no one, but if there is not some true group at a national level then supporting the state ones is the only course as of now. Do you have a national level group that you trust?
I really understand where you are coming from, been there, done that, it took years for me to get my finances in shape after losing everything. No it was not easy and it can still be a headache.
For the right organization I would do without to help the cause.
