I would strongly advise you---in the strongest of terms----to stay OUT of Florida. That state has gone hysterical over sex offenders and it is the worst state in the United States to reside if you are a SO.

In fact, stay away from all the states located in the Bible Belt. They are all terrible for sex offenders, but trust me, Florida is the worst.

I am sure some people from Florida will chime in and they will tell you the same.

If at all possible do what Rew says and stay OUT OF FLORIDA! It is the worst state for sex offenders, they are very proud of it and by all indications it's about to get even worse. The recent tragic murder of Cherish Perrywinkle has raised calls for even more restrictions, closer monitoring, and increasing the State's ability to subject offenders to involuntary civil commitment. Among some of the ideas suggested at a recent legislative hearing were doing away with the "offender" designation labeling every RSO as a sexually violent predator, increasing the reporting requirements for every offender and making every registrant subject to warrantless search and seizure

Like the others have said FL is the worst and getting even more worse by the day.

I moved out of Florida so my son wouldn't be subject to their laws when he's released from prison. Most places have a 2500 residency restriction from anything having children around it. Which means a lot are homeless, living under bridges or railroad tracks. if me son were released there he would be homeless. I looked for a place for him to live and found it impossible. Why do you have nowhere else to go? There are 47 other states that are easy to get to by car.

No other choice. My parents live down there and we don't have our own place. They are helping us get set up and there is nowhere else to go. We don't have the means to live somewhere else on our own because no one will take us.

I am so sorry! Its very hard trying to find a place to live with this name and they keep making it tougher. I live in Louisiana and I can tell you that I tried to find my son a place to live and tried my moms place and they had a place nearby that they considered a day care and my son had to go into this other place so not to serve time because he wasnt in compliance. I have bought a home and we are in compliance but he has only been here to sleep (tonight will be 5th time) because judge made him stay in some hell hole. Dont give up! Keep God in your heart to guide you. And dont let these people who call themselves justice steal your Joy! I have more going on in sons life but I honesty wish you and your husband well!

Ditto what others have said...FloriDUH is the LAST place for an RSO.... If you have no choice, then be VERY careful...

There are other choices please for the love of god stay out of floriduh I wouldn't even send my worst enemy there if he was a RSO

Does anyone know which states are the most "lenient"? We are early into the process but I plan on moving once my son is released.

I spent a lot of time looking into it. I picked Philly for a few reasons. PA tried and still tries to do residency restrictions but PA 's supreme court has decide it's unconstitutional. But that can change. Even if you pick a place be prepared for anything.
I picked the outskirts of the city so my son would be able to go anywhere he needs without a car. He wants to drive and that's up to him.. but personally.. with cops being bored and looking up car tags when they want I think it's best he stays low to start with. He gets out in January. He would rather live in the country but we've lived there and it's hard to get around and with so few people he would probably stand out more in that kind of scenario than in a city with a lot of people. Also the parole officers are overworked here, understaffed and the budget is poor. They'll have their hands full with real criminals and.. I think after realizing my son isn't a bad guy,. will leave him alone. at least that's what I'm hoping.

I would look at the addresses on the registry and find a place to live by using the registry. Florida is the most dangerous place to live and once trapped its very hard to break free from Florida.

Read the Florida newspapers and they are very close to tabloid press with very little truth and lots of fear. I would contact Fliorida Action Commitee and tell them you will be moving to Florida and would like advice. They are very nice people that understand.

I live in a rural area and I don't believe we stick out like sore thumbs... People that live in rural areas don't have the time to meddle in other peoples business because they have enough to do that is their own. At least where I live it's like that. Yeah you will get snowed in, there will be other obstacles to overcome, but the nosey neighbors that have nothing better to do but sit online and look up stuff should be out mowing my lawn and cleaning stalls in the barn at my house. People that live in the country have far less time to be concerned with others around them.

Those that seem to find the time to meddle are transplants to the country and will soon realize that no one else could give two shits about most stuff... :)
