If you pulled him out of school, are you able to homeschool him until this case is over? I really wouldn't put it past them to do such a thing.
This time IS the most difficult to go through. The waiting and unknown is hard for everyone involved. It will be difficult for the parents of your neice (as it sounds like she is too young to know what's going on), as it is for you and your son, and other family members.
Don't say a lot to the family, but just remind them that yhis affects you too, and that you want to ensure that they are appropriately represented - and Victim Advocates are not there to advocate for the victim and their family, but to pressure the victim and family to testify to help the DA win their case, even if it's not in their best interest.
Daughter feels more victimized by the system, than what her dad did. My heart goes out to you....
Keep him with you. Do not share details with anyone. Do not ask for details from your son. His speech is NOT protected unless it is with an attorney. Because he is a minor, the attorney will have to talk to you at some point. If he was an adult, you would know far less.
I had to borrow money to get an attorney, I ended up taking money from my 401k (which no longer exists). If you can refinance your house (assuming you have one), I would do so. I know money is tight, $6,500 seems like quite a bit, but given the circumstances, is definitely worth it.
I was a registered sex offender for 14 years when I learned that I was charged as a juvenile and was eligable for removal. and since have gotten off the registry.
My advice is don't talk to anyone. Don't let your son talk to anyone. I was one of the ones whom trusted in the police and thought they would help me and understand well guess what they don't. Seek legal advice. Sell anything that you can to save your son. I know money is tight. My parents were told that we didn't need a lawyer when we asked for one. I wish I would have had one.
God bless you and If you need someone to talk to you can always send me a private message.
