I agree w/ everything the others have said. In the case of my LO; he talked to agents w/ no legal representation. I really feel it wouldn't be this bad, had we know this #1 bit of advice!

@Kr15ty: Your son is less than 18.Laws vary by state as to whether parents can be present with their juvenile child during an interrogation.

I do not believe you can withhold the clothing, as your actions could be interpreted as obstruction. Otherwise, your son must not say anything. Also, for your protection, do not ask your son for details as to what happened. You do not want to be interrogated either. The less you or your spouse know, the better.

Not sure what state you are in. I am sorry this happened for everyone involved.

We learned the hard way about talking to the Police. They come in and they lie, they pretend to be your friend and they say "we are here to help" it's a LIE. They will twist your words. Good luck and God bless

This is one of the most difficult things I've had to deal with. I don't know how we are going to make it through. Found a lawyer but the quote was 6500....no clue where I'll get that kind of money

Go to the defense bar's website for your state and contact several attorneys. Believe me 6500 is a lot of money but you don't know what they can do to him, it is worth it if you can find a way to afford it.

You, your son and family are in my prayers. I am sorry about your situation, but do as Independent and Rew and others have advised. I wish my son (30 then) had known to say nothing without a lawyer present. He was online in a chat room, where only 18 and older are supposed to be. A woman started up a chat, it turned out it was a detective posing online and then said she was really only 14 but wanted to meet him... when he went to meet "her" it was the police, they arrrested him, he was scared and confessed, he still thought that he had been in contact with a 14 yr old girl until the lawyer found out it was a sting operation. He said way too much, as they said they wanted to help him, not true! Because of the attorney he got 3.5 yrs, instead of 10-30 he would probably have gotten had he only had a public defender. Our attorney had to be paid $10,000 in full and another 5,000 that would be returned if he did not use it. He used all but $2000. It was a long 9 month process before sentencing. I cannot stress enough that ALL parties need an attorney. My daughter and I were put through the ringer with the DA. They didnt have her best interest in mind. All they cared about was convicting her dad.

Your son did a terrible mistake, but shouldn't have to pay the test if his life for mistake. An attorney will help make sure the best outcome is made.

I am sorry you are going through all of this, but please listen to the advice, get an attorney if at all possible. My adult son was into CP on line, he talked to the cops when they raided our house, admitted everything. They told him it would go much better for him if he admitted it. They also told him that they didn't want him, they wanted to use his email account to get the "bigger fish". We could not afford to hire an attorney ( my husband ad I are both disabled) so he had to have a public defender, she did get all his charges dropped down to one (he could have been charged for each image found on his laptop and external hard drive). He plead guilty and got 10 years.
You said your son is 15, in New York State they cannot question an underage child without an adult present who is his parent, or his lawyer. Check the laws in your state. Good luck.
