My son was moved from an "evaluation" facility in KS to Hutchinson Prison. This was on June 16. I have been writing him three letters a week and haven't had any response yet. That is NOT my son. I called the prison to check and see if he has been getting my letters (I have sent over six so far) and someone called me back and said that yes, he's been getting my letters. He has money in the canteen, why do you think he's not writing me back? Is there some sort of rule about writing letters when you get moved?

I would just wait until July 16th to see if they move him.

All the prisons I was ever at had case managers and a unit manager was one step above the case manager. At the medium I was at we had one case manager for every 80 inmates and at the minimum we had one case manager for every 120 inmates.

If they don't move him on July 16th, I would either contact the prison and talk to his case manager. He would be handling all your son's paperwork, so he or she would know. I would be polite, but just ask him why he has not been moved.

No, he's in general population in HIGH/MEDIUM. In a six person cell - And scared out of his wits!

tomsmother, I just went to www.prisontalk.org and did a search of the forums for the word "Hutchinson." I found a thread that's over a year old with a woman talking about her man being in Hutchinson. She said they put him in max, even though he was supposed to be low/medium. Quoting: "...they had put him into max but after everything happened they moved him because he's only a low medium. So far so good, he's making some friends and hasn't had any problems. Thank God. I pray it stays that way!" She hasn't posted anything since August of 2013, so hopefully everything went well for her and her man.

So, evidently Hutchinson sometimes does that kind of thing.

Oh, by the way, tomsmother, that poster at PrisonTalk indicated in her public profile that her son is in for drug charges. Just be cautious, because some folks are prejudiced against people with SO charges.

Hey tomsmum a idea for you if he doesn't want to throw out any of his letters tell him to write back to you using the letter you have sent....as in you write on one side he writes on the other side.
