“Once convicted or adjudicated in California, this is a lifetime requirement for both juveniles and adults. In order to be relieved of this requirement, juveniles adjudicated in juvenile court may petition to have their record sealed; adults may petition the court for a Certificate of Rehabilitation in some cases or a full Governor’s Pardon in most cases.”
But Candice, California is making great progress in its fight for legislation that is fair to sex offenders. The lifetime registration requirement may change someday.
I want to emphasize to all the mothers, wives, GFs, and family member of sex offenders that we are winning and making progress to relieve many of the burdens of registration for the offenders. Ten or fifteen years ago, the laws in this country for sex offender registrants were deplorable. They were very intrusive and the future looked bleak. Now many of those in the legal field and judges are realizing that the registry is ineffective and many of those laws are being weakened or abolished.
So, everyone, keep your hopes and faith by your side. Trust me, things are getting better.
Candice, I have copied and pasted a post I made on another sex offender board I go to daily. Within my post is a lot of information not only for California registrants, but sex offenders from every state in the union.
Hope this helps.

Here is my post from another forum------
“””I went through my bookmarks and favorites to compile a list of sites that can be helpful to anyone either beginning or presently walking through this journey of being a registrant or the loved one of a registrant.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This site---Klaas Kids--- has links for the basic registration requirements for each individual state. The site also has some contact information for the department or person who is responsible for much of the registration procedures regarding the registration process in that particular state. Those links will be in blue.
This site is one of the most current sites I have come across and is an excellent resource for both the newbies and the veterans. Just scroll down the page and click the link for any state.

At the bottom of the page you will see a map of the United States. From the map, you will see the total number of registrants in each state. The number of registrants in each state is also shown in text form below the map.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The links below have been taken from the former California RSOL site, now known as all4consolaws.org/. These links will download a file to your computer which you can open and access the information.
The link below takes you to a pdf document I call "Sex Offender Relief." It explains and gives---state by state---information about termination and the termination criteria for the sex offender registry.
When reading some of these documents, you will have to zoom or enlarge them to read them without difficulty.

The link below is a single page----state by state---document which gives information about the registry requirements in each state on one single page. You may have to zoom to 200% or more to be able to read it.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The link below will access the all4consolaws.org site, formerly the CaliforniaRSOL site. On this site you will find links to the sex offender statutes in each state. You will have to scroll down about halfway to see each state. These statutes are not current, but they will give you an idea of how each state handles sex offenders and the sex offender registry.
There are also links to the aforementioned Sex Offender Registration Relief for all 50 States AND links to each individual state’s statutes---both as an overview of all 50 states and for each individual state---concerning sex offenders and sex offender registration. These links were mentioned in the preceding paragraphs, but I will include them again.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The following link will allow you to access a "Sex Offender Enactment Database." You can plug in a number of choices and find out the state legislation regarding registrants which was passed that year with affects all registrants. It has not been updated for 2016, but it remains a valuable resource.

If you have any problems with any of these links or any questions, please message me so I can correct them. I need the help of others as I make mistakes sometimes, and I certainly do not want to be giving any inaccurate information.
I have more helpful links I will add to the board in the next few weeks.
I will place these links in the “legal” section since most of them deal with the laws or regulations that affect all registrants. If the mods want to move these links to a different category, that is fine as far as I am concerned.

Candice,
To add to my previous post, there are signs that the registration requirements in California will be changing for the better. California has an excellent support system for sex offenders, so I look for things to get better in California. They even have their own website---
https://tinyurl.com/ybfc4aqy
Senate Bill 421 passed in the state of California. Since your husband has not been convicted of a contact crime and it is a non-violent crime, he will undoubtedly be placed in a lower tier----probably tier 1. As a result, he will be able to get removed after 10 years.
The lower tier levels will not have the lifetime registration requirement, so at some point, if the bill passes, RSOs will be able to be removed from the registry.

I know I mentioned in my original post that California had a lifetime registry, but that has changed since Senate Bill 421 passed. Forgive me, as I have been extremely busy this AM trying to juggle three projects at once. I knew that California had passed a tiered registry, but for some reason, it did not compute in my overworked mind.
