A parole attorney is a total waste of money. I don't know how many times I have seen an inmate's family hire a parole attorney and just waste good money that could have better been used to help the inmate when he is finally released from prison. Save your money and use it to help Greg when he gets out.
That may not necessarily be something you want to hear, but I know you and Greg are not rich and I do not want you to waste your hard earned money on an attorney than cannot help him.
A parole attorney has little or no influence on the parole board members. In fact, sometimes they are a little irked when the family has hired one. Trust me, the parole board is not going to listen to a parole attorney nearly as much as they will the inmate, his family, and those who love him when they testify or sent letters of support to the board.
And, being in Arkansas, it is even a longer shot.
Regarding parole, the inmate will or will not make parole on his own. A parole attorney will make no difference.
Parole attorneys can help organize the packets and determine what the parole board wants, but you can do that yourself for free. Hell, I can help you do that myself.
Save your money.

He'll HAVE to have an established place of residence, no ifs and or butts and ideally someone who would hire him immediately upon release. Otherwise I don't think the board will consider it, unfortunately. It'll also depend on his record while serving time.
Do you know what position the district attorney is taking? I'm sure they are against his getting parole given he is an RSO and you live in a very conservative area of the country but any support they could give would be immensely helpful.
God bless and we wish you the best of luck.
Thank you so very much for the advice. I will heed it. My husband will need $500.00 right off the bat to pay for the DNA test and the SO Registration, so, I'll focus my monetary resources on that venture.
As for the letters and testimonials that I'll be gathering, He will be fine. His former employer will be happy to write to the IPO that he's been an excellent employee and can return to that job upon release. Furthermore, I have gotten commitments from his Dad, step-mother, two aunt's, an uncle, and four trusted friends that will all write letters of support for Greg upon his release. Oh, and his therapist will be writing a letter as well. I may reach out to his former attorney, who is now a deputy prosecutor to see if he'd be willing to write a letter on his behalf. The prosecutor that processed the deal that my husband took is a real ass that is hated by both the other deputy prosecutors as well as the public defenders. However, It's doubtful that he'd try to intervene-he's too busy prosecuting more severe cases and may not even take notice that my husband is up for parole. There are no actual physical victims that would appeal to the parole board to not grant him parole. I'm keeping a low profile here in this town and not ruffling any feathers. I'm basically working, teaching, practicing, and attending church. Nothing that will draw attention to me.
This week, I'll be meeting with our priest to see if he'll write a letter as well.
I have been and will be maintaining an established place of residency that is well outside of the restriction zone for school, park, daycare, etc. I've even gotten some advice from the local sheriff's office on what to do. They told me that they wish more families of SO's would do what I am doing and ask questions and getting a grasp on the guidelines. So, I'm even establishing positive ties with Law enforcement for my husband.
Today was a time of Grace for me and my husband. My church will be getting a new assistant priest next month. She just happens to be someone who visits my husband's prison quite frequently. What's incredible is that her father is best friends with the warden of Tucker minimum. I have given her my husband's full name as well as his ADC number, and she's going to pray and visit with him. THIS COULD REALLY HELP WITH HIS PAROLE PROSPECTS!!!!
My husband has been in the custody of ADC for 7 months today. There's been absolutely no incidents or disciplinaries thus far. He's been working in the kitchen, and has gained the recognition of the ADC staff as someone who is a hard worker that stays out of trouble. He spends most of his free time reading, writing, and trying to sleep when he can. He doesn't do yard call or gym call.....too risky, too many chances to get into a situation that wouldn't bode well for him. He's just focused on serving his time and getting out. He lives for letters and visits. His dad and I take turns in travelling down to see him, as it's a 3 hour trip one way.
Hopefully 14 months today, my husband will be home, and we can start rebuilding our lives and rekindling the fires of our love and our marriage.
Thank you for the advice.
