First, get out of Florida and never go back. Florida easily wins first prize as the most sex offender hating state in the country. Every year they try to out do what they did the year before and pass more and more legislation that makes it very difficult for a sex offender registrant to live there. And the kicker is that some of those laws will be applied retroactively so they will affect all registrants no matter when they were convicted.

Most Bible Belt states are not registrant friendly. On the US map cut a swath of an area from Missouri down to Texas and then go toward the east coast. This would include Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, both Virginias. I may have left out a state, but you get the idea.

A lot of Conservative and religious folks live in the Bible Belt and they are usually "tough on crime" so they are hard on registrants.

I am not sure about Colorado or Nebraska, but Wisconsin is getting bad and Michigan is not very good either.

We have a couple of people from the Carolinas here who say it is not too bad. They will post later when they see this thread.

The Midwestern states are not a whole lot better than the Bible States. Ohio, Illinois, and Iowa are not very good.

California and Arizona are also two states you do not want to be, although I have heard from a couple of registrants that Arizona is not that bad.

The better states are the New England states, Pennsylvania, New Hampshire, and in that area. I think Maryland is not too bad either.

I think Utah and Oregon are two of the better states. I don't know much about the Dakotas or Montana. Michigan is not good either.

We moved from Floriduh to Pennsylvania. Philly to be exact, as it's more liberal. It's not that bad here.

AZ is terrible if you committed your crime there and have life-time probation. It is also life time registration too. For someone coming off life-time probation from another state it is not as bad except for the fact your neighbors will be flyered about your crime so finding a place to live is not easy. 77% of sex offenders in Maricopa county are on life time probation - 2014 figures. That is the area around Phoenix.

South Carolina has not passed any new laws in 5 years and my PO says they are working to pass relief on level 1's. (Currently recognized as level 2's..) No living restrictions except for the top 5 crimes involving children.

Stay away from North Carolina....

North Carolina has a 1,000 foot residency restriction. Plus you are not allowed to use the internet on a site that can be accessed by children. They've tried to ban the internet altogether but was shot down.

North Carolina is more "Bible Belt" than states around it.

WI is bad because every town has it's own set of rules which makes traveling to the next town an action that requires research.

It was posted here WI might be going to do state wide residency / presence restrictions, which would stink but at least provide consistency.

IL prohibits you from even celebrating holidays or going to parks - no exceptions.

IL reform group is in process of trying to lesson the park restrictions and the legal group considering lawsuits on the rest but they're years away from real changes.

I hear MN isn't bad. Only tier 3 on the public list. No restrictions once off probation / parole.

Utah I've heard is good as well.

MD, PA and Washington DC aren't bad except that MD and PA are AWA states. But there are no residency restrictions nor presence restrictions except for schools and day cares.

Would the easiest places to live on probation be the same as those on the registry?

rewdiazepam all level 3 sex offenders now have GPS monitoring - it is a new requirement.. It is very easy to be classified as a level three. Most getting out of prison now are under that level. They really don't have to do anything that terrible to get the label.
