My probation paperwork:
"You shall submit to a search of your person, property, residence or vehicle at any time of day or night, with or without consent or a search warrant whenever requested to do so by a probation officer or any other peace office. You specifically consent to the use of any contraband seized as evidence in a probation violation proceeding."

Usually the PO just shows up unannounced at least 1X per month (sometimes it's 2 POs) and he/they poke around into cupboards, look in the refrigerator, closets through the medicine cabinet, go through the garbage, maybe the trunk of the car etc...one talks / asks questions the other pokes around. Maybe they go through your computer check at what you've been looking viewing (even if computers are irrelevant to the parole restrictions) and then they go away when they come up empty handed. I think sometimes they just hope you'll object so they can say you are 'uncooperative' and start something. Who cares. There's nothing illegal or illicit around here. Just say "yes" or "no" and wait for them to leave. Don't let them pick your battles.

Anyone who is on probation or parole can have their property searched at any time without a warrant. That is a condition of getting probation or parole.

When I first started probation my PO made at least a dozen "walk-through" inspection at random. They even looked in the refrigerator for alcohol.

There was a case recently in Alabama where a sheriff made "excessive" searches and lost in court but it was obviously excessive but that was a sheriff not a PO.

His last PO was lazy but his new one seems to want to put the fear in him.

my po and some times 1 or 2 or 3 others will be with him he is always with some one when he comes but most of the time he just stays in the car and i just walk out to him lol he said to me when i first meet him , "if it was not for the state making him do it then he would not even do the home visits : lol he really dose hate doing them lol. just wish he would give my stuff back soon

Great when you get one that doesn't cone to your place ever! Weird as all F my last 3 months or so on probation when I was living in the basement apt I had 3 random out of the blue COP knocks. I always ducked down low didn't make a peep and waited it out forever til I felt courage enough to peek out a window to make sure he was gone. Crazy stuff, when random LEO visits are happening because of a myriad of possible reasons ranging from previous tenants warrants, weed smoke complaints from a high strung neighbor, to halloween weirdness!

Doesn't the cops not the po but cops have to have a Warner before they can look any where ? I mean I know they don't if the po is with them but when there by them selfs? I know when my po took my laptop they had to wait to get a search warrant befor they could even send it out to the lab to be searched

Hell the nested day they gave mea copy of the search warrant for my home even tho the po was with them they appear toy needed one anyways

This may be a stupid question but are parole officers in uniform or are they dressed in regular clothes? Are they in unmarked cars? Do the neighbors know your house/apartment is being searched or are they discreet about it? Just curious since I have no idea how this works. Thank you

In our state parole and probation officers used to wear 'street clothes" but that was back when the goal was to get people back on their feet and help them be 'productive citizens' again.

Now the Parole Officers (in NV) show up in uniforms, swat gear...flack jackets emblazoned with reflective strips and Words like POLICE and carrying guns. They are basically militarized especially since NV's compliance. with the AWA means more grant money to spend on toys and dress-up clothes.

You are absolutely correct.

Years ago, POs---and all law enforcement---were respected and they had some class. They treated the citizens with respect.

Now they are no longer respected, but feared, and all too often they act like a bunch of hooligans with badges.

My son's last PO just showed up in his street clothes. Haven't met this new guy yet..

Yeah.. they always give you the line that they're there to help you, but they're not. My son literally goes into a panic attack if he feels there is anything he's done that could put him back in prison. He gave the police department an incorrect zip code for his new house and just went into a panic mode, because it was 10 days after he went there to update his address.. They told him his PO could have just called in because it was just 1 number at the end of the zip code.

Rew, as you know, In 1984 the feds did away with parole boards and did away with parole in the federal system (determinate sentencing which is different than mandatory minimums by the way) It solves a lot of this supervision stuff, makes figuring good time and actually rewards people who want to learn from their mistakes and be productive in (and out) of prison. Doing away with parole in the federal system has meant that federal prison building has calmed down (although their are 'bad prisons and better prisons etc in the fed system) Just imaging if out meant out with only requirements to Register (and the possibility of getting off the registry in 15-25 years?) Children would be just as safe, we would not have to be putting up with all these people using hard on crime to increase their budgets and boost themselves. In our state alone, just the parole BOARD' projected budget for 2016-17 is $2,677,216.00 I couldn't even find exactly how much the PAROLE department's projected budget is because t is spread out and cleverly hidden. Imagine if some of the $$ saved tax payers were just spent on adult probation in order to help keep people out of prison and spent on Juvenile services ....but then the prison guards would probably object.
The idea is to put a cap of 69 years on life sentences (30 years off for 'good time credits) so that even people who are 'bitched' as habitual criminals would have hope and reason to go on without turning into predators inside prisons and preying on youngsters now adjudicated and remanded as adults to be in prison and under "parole" supervision forever.... but then what would the present parole officers do...get real jobs as rent-a-cops?

Sorry the cap discussed is 60 years so good time credits would count for them too. AND since passing such a law would not only ease cost tax payers, it would be 'favorable' to all prisoners past and present and would not violate habeous corpus when applied retroactively.to prisoners. parolees and SO's alike.

Idk what the fed PO's can do as far as home visits go. My son's on state probation in MD.
