This was only one of three bills introduced this session to change the registry and all three had strong support. Out of all them this one changed the registry the least as it only dealt juvenile offenses while the other two potentially affected everybody. You would think with that much bipartisan support in the legislature to change the registry Nixon would have the balls to sign the least drastic of the three.

That's what I thought when I read the article. Hell, both parties agreed that the bills were a step in the right direction. All he had to do was sign the damn thing. It is not like he would be going against his own party.

I absolutely HATE living in Missouri with that two-faced, money hungry man in charge of this state! When it comes to petitioning off the registry, doesn't the prosecutor have to make every possible effort to contact the victim anyway so they can have their say? How in the hell does this bill affect that? I really hope that with the strong support that this bill received the Missouri Assembly will override his veto. I knew there was a reason I didn't vote for that a**hole!

Nixon was a state senator for three terms and then moved on to become the Attorney General for the state for 13 years before becoming governor. Being "tough" on crime has been a huge part of his platform for decades.

@brightside313 I don't know if there will be any attempt to override the veto or not but changing registration requirements and the registry has been a big issue in the legislature for the past three years with wide bipartisan support to do something. Not signing this doesn't make any sense at all, only a moron would have vetoed it like oneofthem pointed out.

If Nixon had signed it, it would have chilled the calls for even broader change which would suck but would have been a "politically smart" move on his part if the goal is to keep the registry as punitive as it is. Because of the broad support he would have gained a lot more political capital by signing it. Since he didn't there almost has to be a financial gain in it somewhere for him to offset that.

Claiming the lack of victim notification before being removed from the registry as a reason to veto the bill is totally bogus here. The bill removed juveniles from the PUBLIC registry only. They would still be on a private state registry. Petitioning to be removed from the registry completely would trigger victim notification just as it does now.

Until society becomes more educated about the subject instead of letting ignorant fear control them, things will never get better.

Oh, I'm sure he's getting some sort of financial gain from the registry...he's got his grubby little paws in all sorts of things around here. I wish there would've been a strong candidate that had run against him last year during the election, there would've been a chance to get rid of him! I also believe him and our state attorney general are thick as thieves, so Mr. Koster could've influenced his decision as well. I will be contacting all the state representatives on this, and getting everyone I know to do the same thing...someone's bound to listen!

And, by the way, he also vetoed a gun bill that would've made it a crime for the feds to enforce many federal gun laws. While I know that federal trumps state law (and that was his excuse), most of the citizens of Missouri, especially the ones living in rural areas like I do, wanted something passed that stood up to the federal government, even if only in principle.

This Nixon character is just a tool for the Fed Govt...My State tried the same thing in regards to gun control but never made it to the floor....I live in the "Reddest of Red States"..I'm an 'Unapologetic Conservative" as most know, but I do agree with oneofthem(it occasionally happens) in that the Repugnants and Dumbocrats are basically the same, either a "Pseudo Religious Theocracy'(Using Religion to appeal to those who believe.)Dictatorship) or an 'Atheistic' Pseudo Socialistic Dictatorship where the 'mostly' young people believe that the Govt. has their best interests...

The Civil War is commonly believed to be about ending Slavery, but initially Slavery had little to do with it...The War was about States rights...It was about the Federal Govt. imposing their will on the States against the Peoples wishes, the same as 85 yrs earlier when we stood up against England for basically the same thing...Ending Slavery was just a good thing that came from it....

Yep, I know he's a tool for the fed govt...always has been, he gets to get into more pockets that way. Like I said before, if there would've been a strong candidate that ran against him last year, I believe he'd be out of office. But because there wasn't, most everyone just voted for who they already knew...even though it's well known that he goes with the status quo and is obviously more interested in what he can get out of things instead of what his constituents want. I hope the people around here realize the mistake they made by re-electing him...
