I think this is a great thing for those that are on the registry that will be removed. It's been a long time coming.
These people in office are truly pieces of work.
The Starkey case in Oklahoma was tied up in the lower courts for almost two years before it was ultimately decided by the Oklahoma Supreme Court.
The politicians in Oklahoma knew that there was a very good chance that Oklahoma would lose this decision and thousands would be removed permanently from the registry; they had already lost in a couple of lower courts.
So, as a last ditch effort, the hail Mary so to speak, a year before the case was finally decided, the politicians tried to pass a law in Oklahoma that anyone, regardless of the reason, had to have a court order to be removed from the sex offender registry. Talk about dirty pool!!
They knew that many registrants could probably not afford an attorney to help them get the court order and would remain on the registry. I don't really know how, as it was a constitutional issue, but that was their hope.
The proposal did not ever get out of committee and the DOC said that any removal did not require a court order.
BUT those rotten politicians did everything they could to sabotage an expected court decision.

Yes, there are undoubtedly some that will be removed that are still dangerous, just as there are some that will remain that are no threat to anyone.
But we are a nation of laws, and the Constitution trumps who should or ought to be on the registry.

It is all about that slippery slope.... slippery slope indeed.
Once we start compromising and allow parts of the registry to stay, it just gives the politician a base---a foothold---to start adding back restrictions in some form again.
And, trust me, they will do just that. Then in a few years, we will be back to square one.
The only solution is to get rid of the whole damn thing. If someone is so dangerous that we have to put them on a list for the entire world to view, then they should not be out of prison. If a jury verdict or a plea is 10 years, then an offender should have no other burdens after the 10 year period. If he or she is that dangerous, the jury should have given him more time or the DA should not have allowed such a plea bargain.
I realize this abolishment may have to be accomplished by a piece-by-piece method, as that is the only way that would be acceptable to the public---if it will ever be accepted in any form. But the goal should be to abolish it.
Lists like the registry are unAmerican and have no place in a democratic society, in my opinion.
