Lifetime in FL means Class 3 in PA

From what I've read that if someone moves into PA and has a lifetime registration, which Florida has for everyone, even tho my son is 1 low risk does that mean he would automatically be Class 3? I'm wondering if even a Class 3 would be not as bad as Florida. My son can't live within 2500 of anything, including a mini park so there is nowhere for him to live.

I don't know if I have to now rethink where to move. I need a place where my business would do well. . A city like PHilly would be ideal.

This is so frustrating. I"m going to see what PrisonTalk has about this subject..if any.

Nak - when I was being released from prison in February of 2003 I had it approved for me to go to Texas even though my case was out of Kansas. Then two weeks before my release date they told me they were not allowing me to go to Texas (even though all of my family was here and I had my entire support network here and despite the fact that I knew not a single person in Kansas). Even though I had completed my entire sentence I was FORCED to go into a halfway house until I found a job and suitable housing. They really don't care whether you have a local support system or what burdens you have when you get out of prison.

And yes - if you are in the federal system then you report to a federal probation officer out of the U.S. Probation Office in the nearest district that has one.

So how do you get released in one state and then move to another. I heard that was difficult once you're released.

I didn't. I finished my supervision in Wichita, Kansas in early 2006 and didn't move to Texas until mid-2007.

I've never talked to anyone who successfully transferred from one state to another while under supervision (or who even tried for that matter) so I can't really speak to how difficult it may or may not be.

I've heard of a few that transferred under an interstate compact agreement. Seems all had family where they transferred to or were from one state and convicted in another. When they served their sentence they returned to their home state.

These laws are so hard to keep track of or make sense of....it is like you are doomed to fail.

That's why I"m taking the chance and moving me and my son's job to Philly now. My son has 15 years probation. I hate to see him living in a crappy hotel room for 15 years here in Florida. That's not a life.

Rich, that is what Nak is saying - she is trying to get the transfer approved prior to his release rather than attempting it after. The problem with doing it after is that the process can take a long time, and by the time it is approved you have pretty much established roots. Although, in some places (particularly in Florida) establishing roots is pretty much impossible.
