They say all sex offenders are evaluated which is untrue. The sex offender's registration status is determined by the crime only. Only those who meet the criteria for an evaluation get one and it is only to determine whether or not a predator or sexually violent predator status will be applied. A sex offender's likelihood of reoffense is not reflected by the length of required registration. Of course predator status does reflect this since an assessment was made to determine it.

Its a good video though. It helps parents focus their attention more accurately.

Nakohichi I am also in Florida and the problem with looking at states in general is you have to go and look up the actual county where you want to live. In my county a sex offender has a 1000 ft restriction but the next county over has the 2500 rule and it depends on what the judge ordered I know another guy who is a sex offender in same county and he has the 2500 rule. The great thing about it is once your loved one is out and if they or you buy a house then it dont matter if a home daycare goes up next door they are safe or if a new church or school is built within the restricted area they will be safe as long as they are there first... But keep in mind that dont apply to renters,, If you or they are renting and a home daycare opens up then they are forced to move. Its really crazy and not fair but thats what we have to deal with..Goodluck

Indianapolis is a fairly large, stable city. You might check it out. Right now IN has a 1000 ft restriction. I live 1056 ft from a school...whew! While my town is dead, Indy is doing pretty good. Not sure what type of business you have, but might be worth looking into.

After stll in debt from attorney's fees and rotten credit I can't buy a house. And I don't want to live in Florida anymore. I've looked for places for him to live and they're so far away from everything that I would have to either drive him around or let him rot in the house. We lived in the country for a year waiting for sentencing and it was like a prison for him.
I want him to live in a city. I know him and driving will not be on his todo list. I have been looking into Philadelphia and it seems like a good place to start and I'm finding the support and RSOL active.. then next few months will tell as they're fighting back some bills.
But Florida is mostly all 2500 feet from even a mini park that noone uses. If you kow of any other city that is less than that I would be interested, just in case they don't release my son to another state.

Ok.. so I spoke with PA Megan's department and she doesn't think they would up him to Predator status, which Chicago does without a thought or reason. They might send out notices.. well, they do that in Florida anyway. So I'm heading to Philly, unless the laws change drastically in the next few months.
I'm happy that I can even give my son a choice.. not that he cares. He doesn't want to hear about it. He just wants to get out. So, I'm doing it and hope it works for him.

Unfortunately, most, if not all states, use the registration requirements from the original state when someone moves. This is automatic. States like Florida and California make everyone lifetime. So when someone moves, they are lifetime in the new state.

I'm going to work with The Florida Action Committee and PA RSOL. If my son moves to PA and we can change the lifetime on the list down here it might help my son eventually get off of it.. unless I can find another way.

Under current Florida law, you can petition the courts to be removed from the registry after 20 years. Or maybe 25. Can't remember. They also keep people that have moved, visited, died, etc. on their registry.

Another thing to consider is that even though the state or local municipality may not have any residency restrictions the supervising probation office may. Since he is in federal custody you will need to contact the office that would be supervising him to find out what they will require. For example - if I were to be supervised in Wichita, Kansas the federal probation office (who supervises folks on post-release supervision) would not have any residency restrictions placed against me, whereas in Austin, Texas they would not even allow me to live on a street where kids WALK TO THEIR BUS STOP OR TO SCHOOL! It doesn't even matter if there isn't a bus stop or school within a certain distance! That is what I was told. And there aren't any residency restrictions in the State of Texas at the state level - though some communities do have them - mine has none.

These laws are so fucking complicated it is mind boggling and enough to send any sane person over the edge!!!

Yes Terry thats why I was telling her that every county is different you cant just look at state restrictions and yes federal is different at times than state.. Nak You should try Jacksonville Florida Duval county Call the jacksonville sheriffs office and ask what his restrictons would be.. I know alot of people that live in very good areas of town.. And for the most part they have a 1000 ft restriction from schools,parks and home daycares.. Goodluck and if you need more info I can help you get it from Jacksonville

I don't think Terry means the Philly people. If your son is Federal, he will come under the Fed probation office.

Philadelphia County has no residency restrictions and they are overwhelmed with real crime to bother much with SOs anyway. Unless the State Megans people send them a FTR notice, you will never hear from them.

I'm not staying in Florida.. And my son won't be either. Unless Florida refuses to release him to another state. I don't see why they wouldn't release him if he has nowhere to stay and no job. If I set up residency for him and he has a job.. he had one when he went in. He's part of my business. And he'll have family there once I've moved.
There's always a chance that Philly won't let him in. If they don't or something happens that he can't leave Florida I know of a crappy hotel he can stay in until something happens. . .it's really frustrating.
Even the cops don't know if your home is in a restricted area or not here in Florida. You have to get out your measuring stick and measure from the very edge of the place you live to the very edge of that special place that children go to. bus stop, church , mini park where only the dogs visit for their daily shit.
