My son has medical issues, as well as food intolerance's. I am hoping once he gets to where ever he will be serving his time all his issues will be taken care of. However for now it has been an uphill battle, he is being housed in Ohio until his sentencing, and his "court appointed" attorney is not a lot of help. I called her last week to inform her that they are serving him food he cannot eat, her response was "they won't let him starve" and "I cannot micro manage everything". I spoke to my son last Monday and he told me he had an appointment to see the doctor on Friday to get his diet fixed and to be able to get Boost every day (it helps with the muscle aches and headaches from the marfans). He was told Friday that the doctors assistant was wrong, the doctor does not see inmates until they have been there 30 days. So in the meanwhile he is surviving on oatmeal for breakfast, plain rice for lunch, and plain ramen noodles (he can't use the soup packet because it has milk in it) for dinner. The noodles he has been lucky enough to get from other inmates by trading the food he is being served that he cannot eat. So now I get to call his attorney tomorrow and inform her that he hasn't seen the doctor, and if it weren't for some of the other inmates, he would be starving. Does anyone know who I could call to handle this myself, or am I not able to do so?
Not sure what your confusion is. FMCC Butner is a medical facility. I was not there.
I'm sorry, I misread what you wrote, I thought you said that FMCC was not a federal facility. (I guess my brain was taking a nap) :)
My big issue right now, is that he has lost 10 pounds because of the way he is eating and not getting his boost. Finally saw a medical person yesterday who told him getting the boost ok'd should not be an issue. They will probably get it ok'd just in time for him to be shipped off to Montana (still have no idea when that will be)
They do not necessarily like inmates, but they will tolerate them as their job depends on it. They are not humanitarians in any sense of the word. They will not usually go too far out of their way to help an inmate.
But, they like federal civil lawsuits even worse. You will have to stay on them about your son's diet and meds, if his prison is like any prison I was at.
But they will do it if necessary.
So just keep reminding them.

The DOC or BOP in your son's case, pretty much does what it wants. They do not even listen to attorneys unless they think they might get sued.
If your son does not get his boost, I would first contact the warden of the institution he is at. If you get no response, just start working your way up the ladder. All prison systems have a regional centralized office where all the department heads have their office. No help from the warden, call them.
The main thing is that most prison staff are lazy and you have to stay on them to get things done.
