And it is illegal to share records of minors, names of victims. Other than that most things are public records
So to answer your question I don't know of any state where the LE folks are held to the same privacy and confidential standards as doctors or attorneys.
Physicians and other care givers also do not discuss one's medical status or treatment with others.
People in the legal and medical profession have some ethics and integrity. Cops do not.
But it is obvious that the LE community swaps stories, discusses cases, and have no such integrity. They coach witnesses and have a habit of perjury, along with the hundreds of lies and mistruths they plant during a criminal investigation. How else could they do all this without discussing the case with everyone else?

So, would it be far fetched to fight to make the same laws applicable for LE just like medical prossionals? My gut is saying it is far fetched...
Really smart people don't become cops, usually it isn't challenging enough for them to keep their interest.
As for types of people who get into LE for the most part they start out with good intentions. In the end we become cynical and bitter. Knowing what i know now and my experience of 26+ years i would have picked another profession. But it is what it is and i am enjoying the fact that i retired 2 weeks ago at the age of 50 with full benefits but paid with a mind that is tainted.
Those that look at it as a job are the cops on the beat, the common guys who really have no axe to grind and just do their job without treating citizens badly. They are part of the community and usually are respectful since they come in contact with much of the community. They portray themselves as police officers who are strict, but fair, with a goal to protect the community without acting like a bunch of renegade hooligans.
They seem to have a commons sense approach and realize that not all criminals are monsters and the general public is not their enemy. I think Westy falls into that category. She did her job but she was and is a decent human being.
The second group are the aggressive, many times young, eager beavers that want to be something they could never accomplish in life----to be noticed, to be somebody, to be important. They tend to give the entire LE establishment a bad name.
Some in this group are young, but some have been molded into really terrible police officers----and even worse human beings. Most of these people are in the upper echelon of law enforcement-----detectives (some of the worst), federal agents (FBI, ICE, Homeland Security, etc.), state agents. Not all, but too many of these characters are pure, unadulterated trash. They will stop at nothing to alter a criminal investigation toward a conviction and this group is a blight on America.
Many of the people on this forum have had bad experience with Mr. Robocop of the second group and their stories are not pretty in the least.

I have seen more of the power hungry pot stirring, ambitious types than any other. Then there are the sex offenders that don't get caught. Using their position of power to elicit 'favors' There is one cop in the town I grew up in that was like that. Knew several girls that he took advantage of with that uniform power.
So I have a pretty low opinion of most LE just due to what I have seen with my own two eyes here in rural WI.
Another thing I have noticed, at least around here, that there are a lot of domestic violence that goes on in LE homes. To me this reflects the kinds of personalities out there that are violent and unpredictable. So all those police shootings are not surprising since LE is trained to be able to put a bullet in us, unlike the military.
I know there are good ones out there, such as my uncle and Westdenali, but there so are so many of the other variety that, those good ones drown in the muck.
