My teen son has been gone for 2 weeks. I did make him a card (no care boxes allowed)
It feels like he's been gone a month already. Part of my heart is missing.
Thanksgiving will be hard and not expecting him to be home for Christmas either. I don't know what the outcome of all this will be but I pray and hold onto Gods promises. We can't see him on holidays only on Saturdays, which is a blessing.I'm even allowed to hug my child and I'm soo thankful for that but it hurts... it's so hard to let him go. He needs his mom/dad family he's just a kid.
I'm not looking forward to all these days without him but I gotta stay strong for my younger children and rest if the family.
We will all get through this.. One day at a time.
they came for her 2 days before thanksgiving last year. needless to say i certainly didn't find much at all to be thankful for last thanksgiving at all.
this year it will be just my son and i. my lovely x-daughter-in-law has decided that my grandson can't have any part or hour of thanksgiving with us this year. gonna be a quiet one for sure at this table.
kelly called last night and asked me if i felt like it had been a year yet? i told her yes and no. i told her the truth. that sometimes it feels like it's been so much longer and other times it only feels like a few months. she said it's the same for her too. that she can go for a few days and not really think of it but then a commercial on tv or a song on her mp3 player will bring the time crashing. after the call i simply sat and cried.
she asked if i could pass on a "hi" for her. she is hoping everyone here on the forum is able to have a good thanksgiving. she said that no matter what or how bad things might be, that there is always something to be thankful for.
My parents reacted the same way every other parent here has shared about their pain. For them, that ended 10 years ago when I got out. They didn't have to experience significant number of years of my absence, I hope and pray that all of you stick around for support.
Experiencing Christmas and New Year's while incarcerated was horrible as well. I lost it on my first New Year's Eve. Since I have been out, I have been able to piece some sort of a life back together. Today is a good day so far and should work out okay. I have my mom staying over (with her cat).
I agree with the surreal experience. After I got out, I had one Thanksgiving where one of my cats had to be put to sleep at 1am. Between being on paper at the time, lack of sleep, and then cooling my heels until 2pm in the afternoon before I could visit my dad, I remember having breakfast on Thanksgiving at an I-Hop by myself. Not a fun experience.
Stay safe everyone. We can only do this one day at a time. Thanks for letting me share.
