Yes, Meagan's Law is Federal. It was signed by GW Bush in 1994, I believe.

I have also sent an email to the FCC guy, the pres of that station and to the reporter that put it out... we'll see if anything comes of it... wonder if they will pull the article altogether

I was city clerk for many years and in our town the mayor was the "boss" of the police chief and also held sway over council members (to a degree). I say absolutly write to the mayor and let him know the publicity that may be coming his way as well as the legal ramifiations. You can also go online and find out who the city attorney is and inform him/her of this. Trust me, it will be read and taken very seriously by the city attorney as well as the mayor.

Although if it is a deputy sherriff, that will fall under county commissioners jurisdiction.
