Wow, what's the point of this? Are they now making entertainment out of entrapment?

Nathan, it says it won't be on TV. So what kind of attention do you think they will be getting? I don't know anything about Chris Hansen, is he known for being an attention grabber?

NBC might not be there but I am willing to bet there are going to be plenty of cameras and videos that will be plastered over the internet.

Because they can it is as simple as that. Nothing more complicated. They are in their own words being vigilantes. These videos will be everywhere on social media to attempt to prove that they are fighting the good fight.

But what do they get out of it? Do people really want to see this? I would imagine many people would be grossed out by it and think it's terrible to entrap people. I mean, even "Cops" was real and people stopped watching that. idk... just trying to understand.

I think it will find an audience. As H.L. Mencken once said, no one ever went broke underestimating the taste of the American public.

In March, Berenzweig’s organization will honor Hansen with its “Child Advocate of The Year” award. She says Hansen was a key figure not only in spreading the word about the dangers of online pedophiles but his show also likely played an important role in deterring would-be online predators. “He was the one that raised awareness,” Berenzweig said, “and I’m very appreciative for what he's done.”

DealRme, people will eat this up. People love to compare themselves and say at least I am not as bad as that guy. That's why reality TV is so big lol.

That's for sure; one of the few guys that gave my LO a hard time (mostly running his mouth) was a despicable
twit. We even came a crossed him and his mother during one visit = very trying to say the least. Once my LO was told that the guy was in for such a horrendous drug problem that he had even been seen "drinking" hand sanitizer, it was easier to deal with. Talk about somebody that used SO charges to make THEMSELVES feel better! The apple didn't fall far from that tree as even the mother made SO comments :-(

Independent, really? Why on earth would people watching someone else's life unfairly destroyed as entertainment? That's terrible. These men seem like they are being trapped to me! Don't you think?

Before you attempt to understand why people would want to see another person's life ruined by one of these stings, you have to realize that many people in this country do not see sex offenders as "people" but as monsters.

It is very easy to enjoy seeing someone perceived as evil having their existence shattered. Society does not like monsters or people they feel will prey on children, and if anything, Hansen's productions create the image that these offenders are the true monsters of society.

There are also millions of basically "morally illiterate" people in this country. These are people who are ignorant of many of the issues or problems we have today, including crime and sex offenses. They do not think well for themselves and have very little common sense. Most of their ideas are perceived either through bigotry passed from one generation to the next or what they hear on FOX news.

This lack of basic education causes many of them to be unsuccessful in life. Of course, deep down they know who they are and they usually have a low self-esteem. When they watch a program such as Hansen's, it reminds them that there are people out there that are just as "lost" as they are; they don't feel as alone anymore.

Unhappy people like other people to be unhappy too.

And, there is an old saying, "Misery Loves Company. I think that saying fits this situation.
