Tears, I want to not just join everyone else in expressing my sorrow at the decision and what you're going through, but to thank you for sharing with us as you've taken this journey. Your fears have been my fears. Your questions have been my questions. And the agony you're so obviously facing... it's in front of me. We are all so sorry for what has happened, and some of us are in front of you, and some of us are behind you, and we're all walking on the same rough road through the same awful landscape, but we're walking it together.

Dear Tears -- I have tears in my eyes now writing this. So sorry to hear this and believe me, I and others here know your pain, especially thinking that we could be dead and gone by the time he gets out. I worry about that every day. I'm fairly health now except for certain health issues, but with a history of heart attacks and diabetes in my family, I don't know where I'll be in 10 years or more, which would be the soonest my son could get out. And I worry, too, about something happening while he's in there and no one else taking the time to write to him like I have been.

Thank God we have this board! Come here often, and vent if you need to. That's what we're here for.

I cannot imagine your pain and pray you will be given strength to get through this.

tears and reggie, I understand how you feel. My son will be in at least 10 years, probably longer. We both have health issues, I have already kind of resigned myself to the fact that he will probably not live long enough to get out, and if by any slim chance he does, I will probably no longer be here to help him. Of course I have hope, ya gotta have hope, but I am a realist.

I am so sorry. We as mothers want the best for our children. And we as mothers love our children unconditionally.

As for writing a letter to the judge....you probably have about 3 months before sentencing. You say you have no idea what to write. I dont believe you. You can and will write from the heart.

Just a suggestion. I kept a notebook handy and wrote down good things i had to say about my SIL. After several monthes of just writing a few sentences i was able to put it all together.

When it gets closer to that time and you need help let me know. My SIL's attorney loved my letter.

Your son is very lucky to have a mom like you!

this whole complete issue we all are dealing with is sooo very wrong! it's wrong what our loved ones have done but what the so called justice system does is even worse.

My son got ten years and was sent to massachusettes. i am in michigan with no car and on ssi. you do the best you can to maintain communication and be thankful he can still be connected to you. it was a nightmare for the first few years and though you dont ever get used to it, your not really given a choice. write alot,the guys need mail to remind them someone is out here who cares. we are at the end of my sons sentence and he will be in halfway in a couple months. none of us know if we will be here at the end. i had a surprise triple bypass last year and near died. take one day at a time and be conscious of the fact that you can do very little to make it better.

the only way to deal with this is to take one day at a time. do the best you can to take care of yourself. be there for him. you may still be here when he gets out. that is gods decision. good luck with everything.

Words cannot express how awful I feel for you right now. Such a heartache. I am so sorry. My son is in limbo right now deciding whether or not to take an awful plea deal. He was told if he goes to trial and loses, he will get life. He has 8 counts against him. They added 2 since the nightmare started. With the plea deal it would be 25 yrs. The chances of us being around for him when he got out are slim to non. I understand your turmoil. God bless you as you deal with this situation.

Misty, that is the same plea deal my son got...and it sucks! The lawyers claimed they were saving his life - yeah right, they took his life away. My son got 25 years and I am sure I will not be here to see him walk out either. Hope things change - fight for a better deal, don't lay down like we did!
