We are also in Florida. The judge said similar things to my son But the probation had different ideas. Also at my son's trial no one had a copy of the sex offender probation requirements.

We're in MD and my son served his time in county. He's on his 2nd yr of a 5yr probation period and has never had to wear an ankle bracelet. I'm so thankful for that!

Yes my husband to be has be wearing an ankle bracelet since 2008 and soon will be done in August of this year. We live in California and just recently we noticed the bracelet have given him some type of skin pigmentation. If it is a serious condition, I will encourage him to Sue. That attorney above doesn't seem to to is homework!

after 2 yrs being on probation , the probation officer put one on him .said JUST GET USE TO IT.!! yes the ankle bracelet made indentations .in skin .too was way too tight.,cutting his circulation off .i told him he needed to tell his probation officer to loosen it for him . they did , but still no answer to when he will ever get it off. if its for life . it to me would be retroactive and excessive punishment . but all this so restrictions for 10 to life years is unconstitutional to me . hope it will change in AMERICA . this country is going down fast .!!like nazi times:(

hope they run out of money for all this sor and ankle bracelet stuff , no money , then how can they have it ? we are running out of money . by the country going into more debt .they are cutting lots of programs to fund for sorna . but one day theylll have to wise up and realize this sorna isnt doing nothing to help anyone , its only destroying lives and families . and bankrupting their own country .give up sorna and integrate rehab programs to help people...

My husband will wear a GPS ankle bracelet, or other surveillance technology, for the rest of his life. Crap!

Where I live those GPS units are for high risk offenders. Aka the worst of the lot.
It's a shame they make everyone wear one of those things. Very sad really.

Sometimes I think that the PO's say things in the initial stages of supervision to scare the SO. My son's PO has told my son to expect to be on the registry for life and that he will have to wear an ankle bracelet for 16 years. Yet, just a few weeks after his release, she has gotten his fees reduced by thousands and thousands of dollars. Also, my son can petition to be released from probation after 5 years. If he is successful, he obviously will not be wearing an ankle bracelet in 16 years.
In other words, I think that for many of us, it will be a waiting game. What if a miracle occurs and the registry laws change in the next few years? Will they be retroactive? Just as an example, last year, a bill that impacted me personally died on the floor of the Florida legislature. This year, because of a strong advocacy group, that same bill passed and is now waiting for the governor's signature.
Our loved ones should expect the worse, but at the same time, prepare for the best, because we don't know what is going to happen. I believe that there is a time in history for all change (look at the issue of gay marriage...homosexuality used to be against the law!) Forgive me if I sound naive, but perhaps the time for changes in SO laws is just not here yet....yet it could be here sooner than we think.

For the most part, Federal offenders do not have to wear ankle bracelets. The restrictions are bad otherwise. Do not play games with the PO. If violated, the supervised release starts all over again even if you are years in to it.

I can tell you in TN the laws say and SO is supposed to be on monitored supervision (ie. an anklet) for the duration of their supervised release IF the charge was a state level. On a Federal level it is up to the individual SRO (Supervision Release Officer). I did 3 years supervised release and the only time they put me on an anklet was when I violated the rules and went into a strip club with a friend.

Not to mention the rubbing on the skin and discomfort. You could probably put a plastic bag over it to keep it semi dry?

The one I wore was water proof. If that is an issue then I'd let the P.O. know since it's the SO's responsibility to make sure they can track you. If the equipment doesn't work right then put the burden on the state or whoever to get it fixed.

im sorry to hear that peekachu , my hub is on it too who knows for how long !! i hate when they dont give you times youll have to stay in mandatory counceling . ankle bracelet . registry etc. they wont give answers !! makes me mad.. my hub been in counceling since 2009 so now 4 yrs and who knows how much longer . that councelor told people she will never let go some of them in there . meaning as long as they in probation . they will have to go every week and pay 225 mthly . for as long as she says . and my hubs councelor is all about money !! so to finance her luxury , home scars etc life . she has to get her money ev ery month from them .

my hub didnt have no signed paper pr agreed in plea for ankle bracelet . hadnt done nothing wrong either . no violations . and the pro said for him to get use to it !! smack stuff on people who are doing good and following laws . !! that what they do !!

broken : hubbby has to wear socks under it and cover it with his pants.. or he would get blisters. but hes been able to take hot baths with it on no problems. . he said he dont mind wearing one , but if its for life . that very unconstitutional.hope the laws change
