Generally no. Ankle bracelets are generally for pre-trial/pre-plea release on bond. Supervised release (as the feds call it) requires regularly checking in with a probation officer, phone calls, some monitoring, and tons of restrictions. husband is on ankle bracelet . .. and this was two yrs being on probation they put him on this ankle bracelet here in tenn . probation said for him to get use to it but we dont know when hell come off of it . is this against his rights . what should we do . hes already on probation 14 more years . and in registry and has to go visit once month probation visit ther e, and also suprise home visits once month . is this not conciderd punitive punishment, and no he never gotten in trouble in 4 yrs hes been in probation so far . he abides by all laws and pays what he has to pay . and in counceling.. they know where hes at .

this is tenn . read about it.. i think states do differ or what have you ,. they did to him . every day he has to amke sure its charged twice a day . drives me crazy . cause its hurtful he has to wear this , not knowing even how long he will be on it

My son in fla has to have the bracelet on and it is for the duration of probation. All sex offenders in fla have to wear one while on probation if the probation is sex offender probation and not regular probation (they are different)

I was put on probation in 2005 and probation due to end in 2022. I have had an ankle since the first day till today. If I do all the time it will remain in place until probation ends. I do see one possible advantage to the new system at one time you had to carry one part of the bracelet with you every wand here you went I had a problem remembering the second part now everything is all in just one unit no more need to remember. With summer coming on I will say one of the things I miss is to able to swim. My probation is from Florida one of the worst states SO's

My bf has been wearing one since 2010, not sure when he will get it off. He is on probation.

I am not sure if they can go swimming but my son takes a shower of course with his and he is also use the bathtub with it. And I am right there with you on the grammar. I iPad does that too. Lol

i asked a friend whose son just got out of federal a little over 6 months ago, just got out from under a halfway house (they forced on him). happy to say, he found a job he enjoys and is doing so well his employer gave him a raise and a company car to drive around. also happy to report that he is not on gps but confined to five counties surrounding the one he lives in. was also told that within five years he will be able to put in a transfer to live in another state which is something he is wanting to do. this is what else he wrote.

"He will have to attend counseling weekly for 5 years. Ugh! Its nothing more than a money generator for the Parole Office and their contract counselors as he went through counseling and a class while in prison, but the parole office doesn't accept that. There are a few other restrictions but they are minor, and I believe temporary. If he decides to move to another state (His dream!) he will need to go through a process of getting the gaining parole office to accept him, and the parole officer to approve the move. Bottom line, he values his freedom greatly now, after the prison experience and vows he won't lose it again."

There is hope, and a new beginning so keep your spirits up!

AllenbaughLaw, my son received 16 years of probation instead of prison time. His attorney proposed that he not have to wear an ankle bracelet and the judge agreed. However, the PO said that the statues required him to wear it, and wear it for the entire 16 years, even though he is only supposed to be on community control for two years. We are in Florida. What do you think of this?
