My heart goes out to anyone that has a loved one in trouble..
BTW, I could fill 100 pages with these outrageously lengthy sentences, but just click the links provided.
A guy I served time with at the medium security prison in Oklahoma. He went to trial, lost, and was rewarded with a 3,200 year sentence. Tim was later exonerated with DNA evidence by Barry Scheck and the Innocence Project. He was an orderly on my unit. I read his trial transcripts at one time when I worked at night in the law library.

Here are two guys who racked up over 32,000 years for crimes in Oklahoma in the 1990's. Darron was a tutor with me in prison, but I did not know the other guy. These guys were actually guilty.

Here is the fall partner of Darron's. I did not know him as he was at a different prison than I was.

Another tutor I served time with. He only received 125 years. I read his transcripts and he was not guilty of the crimes.

Here is Darron Anderson. He will discharge his sentence in 9746, seven centuries from now. Yes, that is no typo, 9746.

Here is a 200 year sentence for child porn, a non-contact, non-violent crime. He was unwise and went to trial. I did not know him as he was from Arizona.

The majority of these guys I actually knew in prison at one time or the other. They all went to trial and lost in Oklahoma. Most of these long sentence emanated from one incident, but the DA racked up the charges on them when they went to trial and the judge ran the charges consecutively rather than concurrently.
These guys are incentive enough that people should think very long and very hard before going to trial, especially in a Bible Belt state here in the United States. And, yes, it is true if a single juror holds out for an acquittal, the jury is considered hung and there is no conviction BUT, BUT the DA will just continue to retry the case until---1) he finally gets the jury he wants and gets a conviction, or 2) the poor defendant runs out of money and resources and just gives up. Either way it is a conviction for the DA.
Welcome to America.
