And what if LE uses them for stings?? This like winning the lottery. The money will just keep poring in....
They will put a false link on a site they know is visited by potential child pornographers and then prosecute if that link is clicked.

The "false link" only shows gibberish and then goes to a government server where they get the IP address of the person who clicked on the link.
The government has also been known to seize or infiltrate a child pornography site and monitor it for a few weeks to determine who has visited the site, but they insist the they do not distribute real child pornography in an investigation.

The site infiltrated was on the Dark Net which was accessible to only Tor users.

They certainly arrested him on several charges, but he was convicted of "attempted possession of child pornography." I think they dropped a couple of charges of destroying evidence as he destroyed a jump drive or maybe another hard drive. I forgot the specifics, but he did destroy some evidence.
His name was Roderick Vosburgh. I think he was a student at Temple University.
He went to trial and was convicted. Below is a link to his appeal.

When lawmakers began placing the word "attempted" in front of a lot of these charges, it made it much easier to convict.

You said, "So I guess the Sentencing Commission report did not have any affect at all? CP possession is quickly becoming the crime of the day! "
If you will remember, I have preached several times that we replaced the War on Drugs with the War on Child Pornography. Many federal judges have severely criticized the punishment for CP as passed by our Congress. The U S Sentencing Commission has promised to address this, but nothing has been accomplished yet.
You also said, "why in the world would these victims want to be reminded every time someone gets arrested for having their picture?"
Money. Vicky has already been awarded 3.4 million dollars in judgment, but she has not been able to collect all that money; I think I read where Vicky has been able to collect $345,000.
Here is a quote from one article I found in a law blog regarding the restitution for the other member of this Dynamic Duo, a young lady by the name of Amy.
"""Since 2005, there have been about 2,000 prosecutions in federal court that, like Paroline's, included images of the rapes, for which Amy's uncle spent about 10 years in prison and paid a few thousand dollars for counseling sessions for Amy.... Courts so far have awarded restitution in 182 cases and Amy has collected $1.6 million. Of that total, $1.2 million came from one man."""
You also have to remember these young lady's attorneys are getting their cut out of it and are no doubt, pushing for more and more civil cases form which they can profit.
Advocate, I doubt very seriously that they will attempt to retroactively hit someone with restitution for these young lady's.
