Can I file a protective order to keep news stations and newspaper from my door? They knock, they ring bell, they linger in the cul de sac, in 2013 they tried accosting my kids at their high school when they left campus. I dont know what my rights are. I cant call the police cause they come at all times all hours and I'd be calling the police repeatedly and I know that would piss them off. I know if it were legal to file I would qualify to waive the filing fee but I dont know if I can file. We have 3 news stations and two newspapers in town. I just want them to go away. I am afraid of them putting me on camera or film. They make my kids nervous. I'm thinking the answer is no because then they would be prevented from coming to courthouse when I'm there and that, God forbid interferes with their freedom of information rights...

First thing you need to do is post NO TRESPASSING signs on your lawn.... I believe you can get a restraining order.

as to the kids it would depend on their ages i would imagine. if they are underage then i don't see why you wouldn't be able to get a restraining order. if they are over 18 there by being considered adults, no.

me??? i would answer the door and take pics of them and keep track of how often they come onto your property and ring the bell. if nothing else you could them call the cops for harassment, trespass and just maybe a couple of the neighbors could call about them 'disturbing the peace.

it might be a very good idea to speak to the school itself. and see what they can do about keeping them off of school property.

Thank you. I cant open door to take photos because their cameras and bright lights are right on me. I dont want to be on camera. I will call the self help center. I dont have relationships with our neighbors. They are new. Every house but mine went into foreclosure in 2010 so they have just now become occupied. The only thing they know of is my husbands case. I dont want to face them. I will call self help center And if I get good info, I will post for others.

Do you have an attorney that has been with you over the years if so get a hold of them and let them know what's going on

No attorney..but theres a self help center. I hope I can get out of my room in next few days to look into it...im kinda bunkered down in my room..its my hiding place. Thanks for the responses.

okay now I am worried. My son is still in prison but when he gets out he will live with us. I do not know your story at all but are the media at your door because you live with a sex offender? You mentioned your life is like a bad lifetime movie......was your familys case public like on tv? Should I be worried about that happening to us when my son gets out?

I have a friend that works for a news station. I will ask him and see where that leads. I honestly tried googling info about it and even tried several different terms but the only thing that comes up at the top of the list is TMZ or other cases but not against stations themselves.

Makes you think that tv stations are untouchable? I dunno...let's see.

No you cannot get a restraining order against the media. As a member of the media we are protected under Freedom of the Press. Sadly some stations do not have any restraint and/or respect.

Best you can do is put up No Trespassing signs and that's it. Sorry for the problems.

I hate the media...I have no respect for any of them. They are like lawyers only not dressed as nice and usually half the education. Fox 5 sends over these women reporters that are dressed like they should be downtown on Fremont working the corners. My son told her to take her hooker dress and get off our lawn. Press/media have caused my children more pain...just the medis alone..than any one person deserves. Chase my kids as they try to leave their high school. Pathetic, unethical pieces of crap. Sensationalism sells...at the expense of my family.

What do you call 10, 000 members of the media at the bottom of the sea? A good start.

i still think you can put up no trespassing signs. and when one of them come to the door call the cops.

The biggest problem with the media in these cases is that they get all their information from the DAs office.

Of course it will be biased and not a valid representation of the truth; the defense side is never printed. At least that is what I have experience with newspapers.

REW is as usual, very correct. My family can attest to that. Local papers hire young, short on life experience, reporters. And to that, the fact checking days of Woodward and Bernstein are long gone. Now you have the tabloid reporting so familiar today.

Frog - but are they allowed to harass her at her front door and not let her leave her house? Are they allowed to go to the school and harass her kids?
