They took my brand new lap top when my son was arrested - several months later I went to court to get it returned - they did return it but whatever they used to wipe the hard drive - no reason for that anyway because it was not part of the case but they admitted to the judge in court that they had not done any forensics on it so they thought they should wipe it - it was never the same - it did something to the processor of the system.

Or return the gear without the harddrive. They are so cheap now. They could easily wipe it using some DOD software, like DBAN and then no one will be able to recover data. Nothing to it, just time.

well then i guess i had best consider myself lucky that they didn't confiscate my phone or my laptop too as it was only a few months old. they only took it for about 3hrs and then brought it back.

what they probably did was store it somewhere that got hot and cold and ruined it that way....

yeah, your right there considering that she downloaded it while we were in AZ. we heard from a couple of friends that the police were looking for her and we had no idea why they would be looking for her!!! when they came and arrested her they could have taken the truck and the RV we were living in at the time of her arrest. Altho it wasn't the same RV we had out there i guess they could have taken it if they had wanted to!.

You're lucky they gave anything back. When they came into our home they took 2 laptops (one I didn't expect back because it did have evidence on it), his work backberry, his iphone (which had nothing on it), my kids computer (which was so old it barely went on the internet...and had nothing on it) and my playstation (simply because it was in the bedroom). They even took a shoebox that had a few porn dvds in them. As part of his plea deal they said that they get to keep everything. That really ticked me off but they ended up keeping everything.

well i sure hope that they don't change their minds and want to come back and take anything else!

They want to keep things so they can sell them and try to make a buck. It's so stupid but thats what they do.

I have dealt with law enforcement for a very long time.

The main problem I have with law enforcement---other than them being seasoned liars----is that, as you go up the chain and get into the higher echelons of law enforcement, they become increasingly mean-spirited, rude, and uncivilized----resembling thugs.

At the community and local level, law enforcement is mostly decent, especially in smaller communities. They are usually part of the community as they may live in the very city where they work. For the most part, they are just average guys doing a job and they treat the citizens decently. Notice I said "for the most part," as there are always exception.

As you go up the ladder you come to the detectives. Here the terrain starts to get nastier. Many local detectives are deceitful and thoroughly trash, but they still manage to be respectful while lying to your face. At least they won't shoot your dog or get physical with your family.

Then we come to the disgusting people schooled in thuggery----the federal law enforcement people. These people are the lowest of the low, trust me. My problem with them is that they have no class and cannot seem to conduct themselves with any respect toward the very citizens they are sworn to protect.

They perform a dawn raid on someone's house, beat the door down, SHOOT THE DOG if he growls, push innocent mothers and wives over, and generally act like a bunch of gangsters, tearing the hell out of the house, all along with a smart ass attitude. This does not happen in every raid, but it happens in many of them.

It is easy being a hammer when everyone else is a nail.

Bullies. It would be just as easy to come in like an organization with a little civility and class. There is no need to get rowdy and push or handcuff innocent people, nor is there any valid reason to dress up like the military with guns drawn to arrest some pasty teenager or older guy who has downloaded CP; these guys are not a threat to anyone. That is pure show and it is what bullies enjoy.

Any person working in the field for the FBI, ICE, NSA, Homeland Security, or any of these other federal law enforcement organizations has to have a character flaw to treat people like that, even people accused of a crime.

First of all they were never sworn to protect you or any other citizen of this country, they were sworn to protect the STATE. Which according to the Constitution is all of us, but according to those with the power, we are just people that provide money via extortion and what they like to refer to is taxes.

Officer Friendly was a propaganda scheme to give the police a better 'image', started in the 50's when TV commercials came about. They are not here to "Protect and Serve" us citizens. they use all these nice words, but if you read carefully no where do they really say that they are protecting you and me... WE, my friend, are the ENEMY, just look at how law enforcement has been getting increasingly brutal and out of control on everyday citizens.

People fear our military being turned against us, I do not fear that. I fear the people that are already trained to think of us as the enemy, like all of our 'law enforcement' they are trained to not see us as people but 'targets' and 'suspects' and sometimes 'victims'.

Rew, they were going to take our son's condo as forfeiture for the crime of cp; however, we made them a small cash offer to just let us sell it and they accepted. So yes, they are already taking peoples homes for cp and that is verified in the links that you posted. We were told that a crime was committed in the condo and so they had the right to take the residence. Excuse me!! The crime was on the computer!! And it was fine that they took and kept those. They also took a game system and I asked for it back and it was returned at sentencing.

They are a bunch of crooks doing business under the guise of law enforcement.

It is almost a form or organized crime much like the Mafia.

Yes, it is right that they make arrests for those who broke the law, but these forfeitures are all about money, pure and simple. Makes me so angry.

They are beginning to do the forfeitures in child porn cases just as they did in the drug cases. This is just another example of the War on Drugs being replaced by the War on Child pornography.

It is a money making deal for them and IT IS DISGUSTING.
