Does anyone have experience with step-parent adoption with the adopter being a SO? I want my hubby to adopt and he is a RSO. I am increasingly worried about my 9 year old if I dies. I have NO family and she would probably become a ward of the state. I know with the adoption there is a background check involved. DO you think he would be able to adopt? He is still in treatment, less than a year to go and I am his community support person. We do have restrictions in the home right now, but all is well with treatment and he is doing great.
Thanks for any help.

He gets a terrible cough; he coughs all day and all night, making it hard for him to sleep, and his nose runs.I've tried every allergy medicine, OTC and RX, and none of them affect his...

Is anyone here allergic to Sulfa that is currently taking Diamox? I have been diagnosed with IH now for almost 2 years. I am allergic to Sulfa drugs meaning that my throat will swell up so my Neurologist put me on Topamax. I was suffering from major loud whoosing noises and the topamax helped that but everyday I still hear those mainly between 6 - 12 pm. I am at my wits end and have not went...
I would not pursue this until he has successfully completed treatment and is off of any kind of DOC supervision. I am not sure how adoption goes but I would guess that social services gets involved. Have you spoken with a lawyer and instead of having him adopt, since you have no family, willing the child to him vs the adoption?

If there was other family members to fight your husband for custody, then willing the child might be tougher to pull off, but if you truly have no one that would be coming out of the woodwork trying to stake a claim to your child because of a trust or other monetary gain, then you are probably safe just willing the child in the event you pass before they come of legal age.
The other alternative is to just NOT DIE... *grins*
