If you have Netflix you MUST watch Making a Murderer. Not later, start watching it tonight. I don't care how many good officers there are we have a corrupt system and this series proves that beyond and last shred of decency.
I know in my case the PROVEN corrupt police got my former best friend to make a false statement. For this type of coercion to "happen all the time" is inexcusable in our justice system. As a reporter I fully intend on bringing this to the forefront.

While it doesn't change the statistics of either misconduct of LE or the recidivism rates of SOs, the acts of someone that was trusted seem to cut deeper than those that were 5% expected to reoffend.
Now what we could do in a land far far away, is stop looking at cops, prosecutors and judges as citizens or even close to equal. They obviously don't view themselves as such with the rest of us criminal record or no. Think of them as working for the enemy, since they certainly look at all of us, criminal record or none as foes of some kind. Granted not all of the people in those professions are like this, but even a few can spoil the pot for the lot of them, unfortunately. Same goes for the SOs, it is the sensationalized, nationally broadcast cases that cause the worst laws for the masses that did very little or nothing at all. Guess that makes it a horse a piece huh?
Our mistakes as citizens from the get go was to trust those people to do the right thing. Human nature and the ways of man certainly have proven over the centuries that human beings can not be trusted when power over others is concerned. That there are few fair and just folks out there and history has shown that if there is such people, they are slaughtered to keep the masses in line. (I believe that is the premise of the crucifixion of Jesus and his resurrection, at least partially.)
I can't say I have any answers, all I can do is observe and try to navigate my way through the muck. I believe they should teach what the prosecution team is really about from a young age. That LE not 'friends' but tools of the community. They are employed by the elected officials that we put in office. Their power could be only what we give them, if as a mass public we could agree on that, which is unlikely. Even now with all the sensational headlines of the terrible things brought about by LE. Even if those violators of the public trust are few and far between, no tolerance is simple and finite. It is their motto, why not apply it to them for once, regardless of statistics or rates of recidivism.
