Not sure about the money that the prosecuting offices in other states or cities get, but WI prosecutors were complaining recently and asking for a pay raise as they were saying they were over worked and underpaid when compared to private practice attorneys. While the DOC here gets an increase every year in funding to support the ever increasing number of people both incarcerated and on supervision increasing as well. I think their budget is somewhere in the 2.5 billion dollar range, possibly closer to 3 billion. Part of the problem is the Truth in Sentencing, lots of people doing time and nothing more as there is no incentive to do anything as you will do your time, period. Most that are sentenced to receive treatment while inside never get it because they now time the treatments kinda around when you are getting out, if there is no room in a class at that time then you just don't receive treatment and are now forced to pay for it out of pocket on top of all the other stuff you have to do to try to succeed on the outside when they gave you none of the tools they were supposed to give to prepare you for reintegration. It is what creates the 'revolving door' they are continually talking about here.
The conclusion that I have come to is that the system in place is broken, so broken that repairing it is probably a futile effort and the best way to 'survive' the experience is to learn to 'play the game' by the rules they put forth to the letter. Holding them to their rules as well, although my husband hasn't had too much trouble with any of the three POs that he has had in the last year. He has asked others in the waiting room about how long they have had their agents and most of them say for quite some time, so either he is so easy that they are just bouncing him around because they can or the office there is just that unorganized that they keep assigning him to agents that are leaving all the time.
The only way I would move is if I hit the Lotto or Power Ball. Then, I would move out of the country entirely!
don't blame you... we lived here so not much choice... but we live in the country, we are bothered not at all and it's ok. going to be passing through PA this summer on a road trip with a friend of mine... My hubby is kind and lets me travel even if he can't currently...
