I plan to be on both sites. I agree that newbies might be turned off by all of the activist posts but more so by the fighting.
I wish we could have a site set up like the one coupon board I'm on. Where you can hit new posts and see all the new ones since you last visited and 'go to first unread post" and edit
But more so because they have a private area that you can join after so many posts, but that is not view-able to the general public and newbies. And it there's sub categories.
Oh and if any threads get too heated or whatever, they can be moved to the private section. It helps maintain peace on the board

I've been in this fight a looooooong time. I like it when I meet someone with desire to be a key player in this fight, but I don't want you to burn bright then burn out.

I've met many over the years, they're angry enough to fight, they have the fire, but then they come in, get overwhelmed, and drop out in anger. Sometimes I feel people come in with expectations that we cannot meet. We are a grassroots campaign, but we are not miracle workers. Sadly, few of us have resources, and few of us are attorneys. Many are moms, housewives, or registrants themselves. I have a little advantage because I have a specialized degree but even I can't keep tabs on and know everything there is to know.

Sometimes people think they have great ideas no one has tried before, only to learn we've tried these things before and the results are not so great.

There isn't going to be a messiah who is going to throw/catch that Hail Mary into the end zone and win the game for us. This game can be won but we have to be in it for the long haul. Remember, there were many years between slavery was abolished and the civil rights movement, and the movement had discomfort and many blacks were unwilling to fight back.

I just want you to be realistic about this campaign and not get frustrated. I have my moments but I had to learn a few things like not taking many things personally and accept for every three steps forward we are pushed a step or two back.

I take time off from time to time because reading these forums get depressing after a while.

Also, just because we don't hear a lot of talk from people that doesn't necessarily mean they are doing nothing. After all, being out there comes with risks, like being targeted by trolls.

I think a good site is a mix of activism and support. There are times I need to vent and it helps to have somewhere to let it out but I also like hearing advice from others.

@Coastie the conservative- off the subject, but, anytime I hear someone talk about being a conservative I immediatly think of Jan "GED" Brewer , Arpaio and Rick Perry and how he can disregard a mans innocence and put him to death for a crime he very well did not commit (Troy Davis) . When you watch Fox news do you actually have your serious face on??. I can't tell you how many times I hoped I would see the day when a "conservative" got a taste of the screwing that their party inflicts on the people in this country every damn day...thank you for making that happen.

Hello fellow travelers! I only come here occasionally and spend more time reading others posts than I do giving much input. One thing I can tell you is that every one here has, at one time or another, contributed something worthwhile whether you realized it or not. Some posts were encouraging others not so much. But all of them have helped me realize that my son and I are not alone and that change is needed in the laws regarding SOs and their families.
My son is at Wasco State Prison and unless something changes, he will be in prison for nine years for something that was wrong for sure but was not violent.
It's called the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation but very little of that is going on and like the rest of you, I'm worried about what he will be like when he gets out. If he wasn't emotionally disturbed when he went in, he will be when he gets out. Like we all know, change is needed! Blessings to all, Westies

I do not label myself as a liberal or conservative. My registration has nothing to do with the way, or who, I vote for. I look for the person running whose ideals are closest to mine. Remember, I am 63 and have been voting since I was 21.
As for labels in general, I am a loving father, husband and grandparent before anything else. The politicians I vote for had better be concerned about giving those I love a good life.
