Anyone's loved one in Gulf Correction Annex in the Panhandle. I am hearing horrible stories about the officers and inmates. My son is having a really hard time there. It is his first time in prison and it is written all over his face. He has only been there a month and he is being extorted and threatened almost daily. I don't know where to turn to because I know they make it worse if you call the prison and complain. However, I did call anonymously and ask how their protective custoday unit is run, but that is more of a punishment for my son. They are locked in 24 hours a day, no phone calls, no visitors, and only 3 showers a week. I feel absolutely helpless and don't know how I am going to do five more years of this.
I may have mentioned this before, but I think we need to try to get your son into a program called “Protective Management” in Florida. PM is not as intrusive as PC---protective custody----but is actually an area of the prison where inmates who would be vulnerable in general population can be sent.
From my understanding, PM houses all the snitches, sex offenders, and gang dropouts. As I said, it is not nearly as confining as PC.
I had a mother from Florida whose son had a sex offense and was a former correctional officer. He had all kinds of trouble in the Florida prison system until we finally got him into PM. Now he is doing much better.
