My daughter picked up prescription xanax for her, her boyfriend and her cousin. That is why she is spending 2 years in prison. Heres the short version of the story.
Her story is she went to a clinic to get her prescriptions, which she has taken for some time, the Dr. called in her prescriptions and she picked it up along with her boyfriends and cousins, who lives out of town. Sounds normal. I pick up my husbands prescripts all the time. The pharmacist called the police, after calling the pharmacy board, they didnt have time to talk to him, and said an unusual amount of xanax is being prescribed from this clinic with new names. The police report shows that another girl picked up the same prescription for someone other than herself and my daughter picked up her 3. All over a few months. Police report also shows that the person calling in the prescripts worked in the billing department, not a medical person.
So here's who got arrested. My daughter only! not the other girl doing exactly the same thing nor my AD boyfriend, whom I think lined the whole thing up, nor the medical billing lady who pretended to be a Dr and called in the prescriptions! WHAT oh yeah she got fired. WHAT!!!! Why isnt she in jail.
My AD lawyer said it was because the clinic was in a different city and that city chose not to prosecute. So, I guess cities get to chose who they arrest for breaking the law and who they dont. Also, the other girl doing the same thing is free without being charged. I figure my AD was an easy target cuz she has been in trouble before. So, get her she's been in trouble before the rest haven't, except the boyfriend he has felonies, she's an easy arrest!
My daughter has been a prescription drug addict for 10 years. Got addicted to pain meds she started taking because of a chronic illness. No excuses, she made the choice and all the choice of theft and forgery and deception to obtain that go along with the addiction. She has been clean for 2 years.
My AD says she didnt know the lady wasnt a Dr. She thought she was. So I wanted to believe her that she didnt know the lady wasnt a Dr, but now I think she knew and her bf put her up to the whole thing. grrr so frustrated that she is the only one charged. The only one doing time. The most frustrating is the billing lady. I so want to turn her in but dont know where since the police in that city chose not to do anything. Is there a medical board that handles this kind of injustice?

I was a pharmacist for many years. This pharmacist taking it on his own to play policeman bothers me. Most of the pharmacists I know did not like to get involved in legal matters and as long as they had a legal RX they did not question it.
The part that really bothered me is when the pharmacist said, "an unusual amount of Xanax is being prescribed from this clinic with new names." That is, frankly, not his business. He is there to fill Rxs and counsel patients and the cops and robbers should be left to law enforcement.
Most medical professionals do not try to do the job of law enforcement.
This just bothers me.

People who have been in or through the system will understand this, but maybe the newbies here won't until I explain myself.
People who get involved in other people's business and make observations and accusations about a situation they know little about usually bring the cops around. In fact, they usually are the ones who call the police. This opens a complete can of worms. Once the police get involved, you see things happen like happened to Brenda's daughter----some people get charged, some don't, and it is just a mess.
The pharmacist in this case was just using his opinion that "too many Xanax Rxs were coming out of that clinic or an unusual amount."
I would like to ask him if there is a certain number that is too much? Does he keep a running total of the number of Rxs for Xanax coming out of that clinic? What if it was 10 Rx per day? Is that too many? How about 20 Rxs per day? Is that the threshold he uses before he reports someone? What about 30 Rx per day? Will that get you reported?
He did not have any probable cause to believe that all these Rxs were illegal. Frankly, he is one of these snoopy people that I don't really like.
What if he thought a physician was misdiagnosing some of his patients? Would he call the medical board? Would he call the police and tell them he thought the doctor was incompetent and that he had made some bad diagnosis on people's illnesses?
Does this pharmacist not have enough on his plate or enough to than turn people in when he does not even know if a crime has been committed? What is he, Inspector Clouseu?
More people should mind their own damn business unless they are sure a crime has been committed. When I was practicing, I would not have cared if 100 Rxs came out of that clinic daily as long as I thought they were probably legitimate Rxs.
I deal in wrongful convictions and injustices within the criminal justice system. It is people like this pharmacist that muddy the water, sometimes falsely accuse someone, or accuse a person and the wrong person has to pay the price. This creates injustices.
I am of the old school that you just learn to mind your own business in a situation like that.

I was wondering if some of the people involved may have made deals to 'give up' other people involved in drug dealing
The benzodiazepines----Valium (diazepam) and Xanax----have always been controlled substances; even when introduced on the market, they were Schedule III substances.
One fact that most people have a difficult time believing is that until 1971 the class of drugs known as amphetamines, of which methamphetamine is a member, was not even a controlled substance.
I remember dispensing tons of diet pills which were amphetamines to housewives over the years. A woman would go to the doctor and ask for something to help her lose weight and the physician would write for an amphetamine containing diet pill. She had to visit the doctor every 30 days and get a new prescription even though they were not controlled substances.
Even back then unscrupulous physicians wrote prescriptions carelessly.. Many of them were running a pill mill with these drugs.
The women would later tell me funny stories of how they could take these meds and become so energized that they could clean the entire house in a matter of an hour or two. After a while the women were no longer taking these diet pills for weight control, but more for a major boost in energy.
Finally in 1971, the federal government began to realize the dangers of amphetamines and placed them on the controlled substance list.

The first time she was ever arrested, she had a prescriptions pad from a Dr and was having someone write prescriptions for her. There again while she was at the drug store waiting for the prescription to be filled, the pharmacist called the police.
In the past, it was so easy for her to get an over abundance of prescription meds, I am glad they are finally cracking down. Drs did pass it out like candy and there was no checking between drug stores. She could dr hop and drug store hop in the past. But that was a few years ago. I an not too sure that incarceration is the answer. She tells me she sees more drugs in the county jail then she did when she was free. Not sure putting drug addicts, active ones or those who are clean, all together in one room is such a good idea. She did have chances for rehab, but what drug addict is going to take that. Not sure what the answer is to all that.
So, maybe she was picking up xanax illegally, my issue is so were others named in the police report. And why not the billing lady pretending to be a Dr. I would think they would have more reason to arrest her than any of them. They chose my daughter because she had a past and was an easy target. Not that she is totally innocent.
I do think that God has a plan for her life. I believe that this will give her time to think. I pray that she will think about the boyfriend (who I really think set the whole thing up) and be done with him. I pray that she sees she does need help in staying clean. So, I do think that, if she would allow Him too, God could use this to her benefit.
I would just really love to see the others pay for their involvement, especially the billing lady.
