My husband was in prison for 6 years then got out and we got married and then shortly after he passed away. Last year I was on a dating app and found a profile looking for pen pals. So I wrote the guys mom to get his info to write while he's locked up. I knew from experience that would help him out a lot. His mom asked me for my number so he could call me. Our first call I fell for his voice. And a couple months after we started talking we started dating. And he said he has 8 years to go. It's been very hard and feels like I have nobody to talk to. Me and my guy have grown very close and cux he's in federal and too far away we haven't been able to meet yet. Just very lonely and sad. Especially when they go into lockdown a lot. Just wish I had people I could talk to

When i was in the ER February 16th 2025, i was being admitted to ICU where i was for 3 weeks, then had to relearn to walk for 3 weeks in another hospital rehab floor, the nurse told me something that made me feel for over 18 months now that i was finally *safe*. She told me that the guy who raped and beat me 21 years ago now almost 20 years at that time, was in prison as of a month before that...

Sometimes, I think I have ODD. I can be oppositional. It seems that the only times that I feel like cleaning are when I should be doing something else or I have to go somewhere. Well, not everytime but most of the time. Yesterday, I was supposed to be doing online training for work but instead, I decided to work on my kitchen table. Most of the time, I don't know where to start and give...

I halfway wonder if I should put a "Trigger Warning" on my response. I am the 5th of 11 children in a prison family. My eldest brother married a penpal he *met* during the last prison stint before his suicide in 1982. I participate in prison penpal programs in hopes of reforming the prison system, but my view of penpal romance is jaded enough that even working to be compassionate, I often offend the romantically involved.
Is there any chance of doing volunteer work at a prison near you? It would give you quite allot of people to talk to about the challenges of prison love while putting yourself in a position to make realistic changes in the system which has ruined so many lives.
For what it's worth
I have also participated in military and international exchange penpal programs. I love writing letters. The challenges of penpal love seem to be pretty consistent in all those programs. It's easier to love somebody's thoughts than body odors.
I've worked hard to avoid my personal prison family birthright but marrying a college boy with no criminal heritage didn't save me from passing the legacy on to my eldest son. It be a hard cycle to break. He has yet to do hard time, but sure seems to be working to *fix* that. Prayers on-going. . .
Volunteer work with homeless and prison populations is my way of staying close enough to confront my own demons but far enough to keep from falling into that psychotic rabbit hole.
