Thank you for all your prayers, they are MUCH needed!
I hope to God this continues. That this mind set sticks. I made a remark when he originally called that 'we all get ONE ticket to the big dance, God has given you a second ticket, don't waste it."....he recalled that statement and agreed that he is blessed with this second chance and he doesn't want to waste it.
He did make mention that there may come a time at the end of the month, in between the programs, that he may have to 'wait for a spot' for one or two weeks and didn't want an answer right away, but asked if it might be an option to come here to await that spot so that he is in a 'structured environment' and away from any shot of 'relapsing'. I didn't mention it to the hubby, I'll wait it out as his case worker plans on keeping him in the program without interuption. One day at a time. But I feel more hopeful now than I have in the past. Sadly the husband doesn't, he doesn't even want to talk with him just yet. Knowing him, I know he wants to ensure that this is for real before he gets his hopes up, every other time, he was let down and hurt. So I'll let him process in his own time.
I will be hopeful, I know God has given him and us a HUGE blessing, I just hope that this kid will keep that in his mind and realize what a HUGE chance he has now and stick it out and put in the work it will take to get his life back!
Just good to feel 'myself' again. No more 'pity party', no more what ifs, no more what could've been, just what is.....
and it wasn't till he was at the halfway house...that I felt nervous. once he was in the program, I slept like a baby...even better than when he was in jail. even tho he could leave anytime.
SO, use this time to be good to yourself. and I am grateful he is really feeling and dealing with stuff.
Those girlfriend dramas can be quite the thing, can't they? When my son was in rehab, his girlfriend (still using) kept bugging him to leave early.. She was really indignant about his curfew and all the meetings he had to attend, and it really showed him how she was self-absorbed and quite unsupportive of his rehabilitation. I think those meetings do a good job of helping them name those toxic relationships for what they are. They listen to others more than they would to us!
It's so nice to hear you say you're feeling yourself again - a parallel journey to your son coming back to his own self. I really appreciate your words of wisdom... It is not for us to wonder "what if" or "why", it's just what is.
