Need to know if naltrexone side effects wear off
deleted_user
My son has been in a 28 day program for heroin use. He just started taking naltrexone. He is having some side effects and i am hoping to hear others who have used naltrexone and side effects were easier as days went by. This was our one hope to getting him clean. He is 22. Second time in 3 years at rehab. He was on suboxone for 2 years but found out he was manipulating them and still using heroin. He said he wants to be clean. He wants to walk forward and not look back. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Just found this site today. Looking for some peace for my heart. Addiction is a horrible nightmare for addicts and their families.

Is anyone here allergic to Sulfa that is currently taking Diamox? I have been diagnosed with IH now for almost 2 years. I am allergic to Sulfa drugs meaning that my throat will swell up so my Neurologist put me on Topamax. I was suffering from major loud whoosing noises and the topamax helped that but everyday I still hear those mainly between 6 - 12 pm. I am at my wits end and have not went...
So, what are the side effects your son mentions?
Naltrexone doesn't make you feel drugged, though. But lets not forget that it takes time for opioids to leave the body entirely; not to mention the need to take them. Anxiety is to be expected when cutting off from opioids.
I wish you find a way round this. If he is really willing to give himself a chance, he'll do it.
After almost 10 years of experience with a heroin addict brother , I can assure you that your son's statement has little to do with control. Most likely, it's fear and denial talking. Skipping a pill is easy. A 30day long no-way-out, is much more definite.
Stay calm and strong..
