Different Rules for Different Addicts?

Just got off a phone call with my Mom and told her we wouldn't be staying with her for our trip home in a few weeks due to a bad relapse. Of course, I feel guilty. She was sobbing and started asking me why my Dad gets a "free pass" even though he's a drunk.
My moms a drug addict - primary narcotics. My dad is an alcoholic. They're both active in their addictions but the relationships I have with each of them are different. My mom raised me away from my Dad for most of my life. As a child, she was my primary parent who always talked bad about my Dad being a drug dealer, a drunk, a wife beater, etc.
Now that I'm an adult, she's now most of those things. My dad calls after some beers and sometimes sad stuff from the past comes up but that's about it. When my mom uses - she goes off the wall. Steals, lies, manipulates, fights, etc. Two totally different scenarios. My mom makes me feel bad, Dad doesn't.
Does anyone else have this going on?

I do not any more. My dad is an alcoholic and I hated how he treated us both when he was drinking and when he was not. My uncles are alcoholics but I do not have to deal with them everyday. They have a few and get serious for a short time and then leave. I can understand how hard this is but please try to remember the disease is always looking for a scapegoat. This is not your fault or your issue it is about how your mothers addiction affects the people she loves. You made the correct decision. I can not say it is correct or not to have different standards but I do not think anyone has the right to judge. Take care and good luck.

I have this problem with my 2 kids, both heroin addicts. My son is older & brought the shit into my home & introduced his sister to it. She has put me through even more crap than he has, but for some reason that I don't even fully understand myself, I helped her for a longer period of time........probably to her detrement, though. I don't know if its because she's my "baby" or because she stood by me when my son treated me like crap when his dad destroyed our family or what. I do know that we have a right to decide what our relationship is going to be like with anyone in our life. They didn't give us explanations about the havoc they put on us with their addictive behavior. We don't owe them an explanation either. Are we being "fair"? Maybe not, but they sure as hell haven't been fair to us either.

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
