Hi, I take primidone and propranolol both, seem to make out fine. I have essential tremor, both in hands and head. Give it a whirl, you may have to get used to it, however I had no problem.

I've been on it for more than a year, but I don't remember exactly how long. Either way it's the only thing that's helped me, since I got insane dreams from Pranolol that left me more exhausted when I woke up than when I went to bed, and Neurotin only worked for a few months and gave me tics that are still somewhat present, but very rarely. I can't remember ever having any bad experiences with Primidone except once when I ran out of them and had to go without for two weeks. It was not fun.
I'm currently on 600 mg a day as of tomorrow, I've just increased my dose mostly on my own since my doctor is pretty oblivious to the condition, medication or even how to fill out the prescription. Either way I'm happy with the result as for now.
I just wanted to give a different story than the rest. For a lot of people it obviously doesn't work and give bad side effects, but for some, like me, it works like a charm.

Primidone decreased my tremor, but gave me a rash and caused my heart rate to drop dangerously low. I wish I could take it, though! Before the side effects set in, I felt still for the first time in a long time...like a cross-country car ride had just ended.

Hi! I've only just joined this group, so I have some exploring to do. I've been on propanolol for some time and asked my doctor if we could try an alternative, because I'm always so tired. So last night I took my first primidone - 125mg. Today has been a roller coaster. I've been VERY dizzy, and my BP went up to 180/76. It's coming down, now. Last checked it was 136/84. I expected a few initial hiccups, but not quite this. I plan to skip either med tonight, and maybe go back to propanolol tomorrow, with a restart of primidone on Monday after talking to my doc. I had been taking 40mg propanolol twice daily. Thanks for listening.

Me again, with a followup. It turns out that my doctor had prescribed 1/2 of a 50mg pill. That dose isn't available in Canada, so the pharmacist chose to give me 125mg (not cut in half) - exactly five times what I should have gotten. No wonder I was dizzy!

I have been on primidone 150mg for about 6 months and it has slowed my tremmors but has not stopped them completly. I used to make my living with an airbrush but now I am not able to do that kind of stuff so I have found other things I can do. Its not easy by any standards but the meds have at least helped. feel free to send me any reply you feel.

Just started on Primidone. First week- half a 50mg pill at night. Today is my 2nd day with a full 50 at night. I don't really mind the vivid dreams, but how long does it take before the "wobbly walking" goes away?

I took the dog out for a run on the trike today and noticed my legs were shaking- have not noticed that often.

Hi for me I started taking this medicine 5 weeks ago. My doctor started me off slow 50mg but for the first week he told me to cut in half second to 4th week it went to whole tablet.cause its heavy duty medicine and my body has to get used to it. I did have trouble with it til my body got use to it like he said. Now I started a new increase this week to two tablets a day for a week then to 3 then to 4 then to 5. I have noticed a difference just on the one whole tablet alone. My head tremors not as bad as it was and I haven't got to what my regular dosage will be yet so so far I do see its working for me just have to be willing to let ur body get use to medicine

I have been taking Primidone for about 5 months. My hair has been falling out & I just found out that is one of the side effects. I'm going to ask my doctor to take me off of it.

I was put on primidone too fast and too strong of a dose...it whacked me out...by the fourth wk my whole body was convulsing so bad that I lost ten lbs in seven days...but the seizures stopped...it was the weekend so I didn’t call my. Dr...the following wk I called and they advised I taper off...it made it worse, then I had side effects of going off such a serious brain med....I suffered for seven weeks...they couldn’t give me any other seizure meds because they wanted it out of my system...I had all of the
Is nervous energy and knew I could no longer live alone so I strparted packing my house..I did not sleep..nor eat for for weeks....finally one day I had a break down, as I was cleaning I saw a gun in the closet. If I wanted to killmyslef I could.ve done it at any time with all of my pills...to make a long story short..primidone side effect is suicidal tendency. It was Bad. It took another seven weeks to gmget it out of my system. It was the wortpst drug I.ve evnpr wpbeen on, and it triggered my tremor disease to go in high gear...my slow moving disease has now progressed so rapidly in the last four months I have a nurse.s aide and cannot feed myself not do buttons, etc. stay away from this med...I only hope I am not too late with this post. Neuro put me on primidone 4 years ago. I take a 50 with my morning meds, but will add a second later if it is a long, busy day. I don't take it at night, but take a number of meds at night for other medical conditions. I will take a 1/2 a 25 clonazepam as a backup if the primidone needs a boost. I am on buspirone for anxiety, which helps keep stress level down, which of course helps with the tremors. My goal is not to be tremor free, but to keep the tremors under control. Some actions, like trying to reach to a top shelf are problematic, but I keep a 2 step for when needed. I choose the times when I need to write checks, etcetera. Computer is easy as I can keep arms secured. Just where I'm at.

I have been on it for 3 months. Not sure of the dose but they started me at a 1/2 a pill and upped it by half a week until I was at 2 a day. It made a change to my mood, not in a positive way. That finally started to get better but my shake started to get worse too. I am now worse than I was before the meds.

Hi all , new to group here . I’ve had ET most of my life . Got really worse in past year . Taking 150 mg of Primidone daily . Now my neuro is talking about DBS ( deep brain stimulation) surgery . Anyone on here done this ? Pretty scared , but don’t want to live like this .
